Hello all.....

In a lot of the spiritual reading that I have done through the years service to others is stressed time and time again. In certain cultures, that of which I am drawing a blank, the belief is that the community as a whole has to ascend for anyone to. When it comes to putting on trance events there's an obvious benefit that shines through for both the people in attendance, as well as the promoters. The crew that I am a part of always has a spiritual focus towards our events, or at least things that can be interpreted as spiritual. Our intentions for the events are always about getting people together for positive growth and the continued nurturing of the relationships inside the community. My question for you all is, do you think that this completely satisfies that service to others aspect?

We don't always make money, in all actuality it is the norm for us to lose money. So, in that regard the focus isn't on something that hinders on greed. We always strive to leave a lasting impression on people which inevitably shines down on those involved with making the party happen. This is a great benefit, but not one in which our focus lies. We love to get out on the dance floor and rock out as well, and myself personally, I love to get behind the decks and make people dance. So, is there some fine line when it comes to service to others and service to self? My thoughts are it seems to be seeped in the intention that you have for doing what you are doing. Thoughts? And......go!           Brian - Uhm

I think you're doing the right thing, I have the same idea as well for throwing parties, but men you have to seek the way to dont looose money, I mean at least youre doing a job (orgnizing) and its not for free.

You must value higher your work, time an effort, really. Seek a way to win money, it will make you more happy as the businees will grow and you will start to been able to offer better parties to your public.

Cheers.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

As regarding throwing events im not 100% agreeing with Login... its the typical: I work / i deserve... Did you ever hear about working for pleasure/community/culture ?
For me organizing has never been about personal benefit - if i loose money on a event, i will consider if it was worth the money/effort; if it wasn't i wont make that kind of event another time. However if it was worth both the money and the effort; why should i complain... some people waste their money on cars, weddings, cup-cakes and "office" ... why shouldnt we "waste" ours on giving sonic presents to our fellow trancers.... ?
Make your money elsewhere, spend it on what you love - dont make what you love pay for your self-righteous-greedy-ego - they dont go well hand in hand...
This might sound out of line and slightly harsh - but i have a romantic relationshíp to this scene - and people making it their living, usually make me puke ... (Also some of the dudes that makes the most in this scene by throwing events, are "underpaying" the artists, to maximize their profits even more, sad, sad, sad).

I think itz all about the personal satisfaction u urself receive as service to others is indeed service to urself as each one of us are equal as said by da great dalai lama so on this level everybody should view things neutrally .... me is from india and have bin ozzie land 4 4 years n now in europe since 2 n a half so hav travelled n experience da most beautiful time and moments ..itz how we see things and ders good and bad everywhere and wats good and wats not also differs from individuals as we make the choice n decision so wateva we do do it positive n rite and give ur heart out or else is just useless innit:.....
U can use electricity to make toast or u can use it to kill sum1 - electricty is
U can use the internet for wise things or u can use it for pornography - internet is
so wat is is my brothers:))))
peace luv n psykadelia always

service-to-self: you mind only your own benefit, not seeing the other as you

service-to-others: you see the other as another you. That doesn't mean you treat yourself diferently, you deserve as much respect as others

in this view I think what you're doing fits perfectly in service-to-others respect!

Thanks for the responses everyone, I appreciate the insight

Login.......if money was the reason I was throwing parties, then I would be throwing hip-hop parties not trance parties. Money is not and should never be the focus. Granted we are not in the business of losing thousands of dollars a party, but that doesn't happen. There are things that you can do to minimize your losses, and maximize your benefit. I think the duty of any financially constrained promoter is to figure out how to do that. The only thing that I care to grow is the sense of community that we have in our scene, and a sense of awareness. We do throw nice parties here in Texas, and the people who attend our events are very grateful for the work, time, and thought that goes into them

Zoolog.....thanks for what you said, for it is right up my alley. Thankfully I enjoy the job that I have that is responsible for paying my bills. If money is lost on an event that we throw the success level is measured by the extent in which we were able to see our intention through. That is not only a personal reflection, but one in which is also measured through the experiences that those who attended had. Those are always the two measuring sticks, and so far I think all in Atrium Obscurum would agree that we have been sucessful.

Baba & Serguei......you both put your thoughts in easy terms. Thanks you

@DJ Uhm

Excellent way of thinking!!!
This is where the true meaning of the psychedelic experience lies!
"You take what you give..."
So you are truly lucky my friend because the feedback of your actions levitates you to a state where all the money of the world can't buy!!!

The psychedelic experience/party is the energy transimision.
The quality and the quantity of the transimision is the real and only measure of success!!!

There are things in life/universe that money can't buy!!!

A lot of respect to you!
Keep believing!           ---RealPsyLifeForRealPsyPeople---
