alot of sequencer programs are around but the question every newbie ask is... which sequencer is good for me?
currently i prefer fruity loops as i dont have any analog equipments. but to be honest, i think there are much more effective sequencer than fruity loops. i'd say that fruity loops is still very usefull as you can generate nice loops wich can be used as samples in other sequencers.
however... has anybody any experiences in the follow most fameous programs:
- cubase - cakewalk - logic audio
what i am looking for is a sequencer program which can be used to make music just with samples. for sure it needs to support vst and dxi
what do you prefer? any howtos around on the net?
thanks |

I think fruity loops would be the best choice for you right now, because The other programmes are way more complicated then fruity, and their main use is audio recording from external instruments. However, if you consider creating music more seriously and buying equipment for that cause, you should start using cubase in order to get use to the audio AND midi environment (in the meanwhile, you can use VST instruments in cubase, which you will learn a lot from). |

the combination fruity loops and cubase is great, fruity is very good for creating loops and it's very easy to import them into cubase. I would choose cubase before logic or cakewalk since it's the most user friendly... |

i think u should try Logic and Cubase and then choose. because the difference is - performance and interface. on my box logic runs better, but cubase has much more plugin effects and VST instruments....
each has its pros & cons
try the WWW to compare [some e-magazine] and try yourself o'course and choose :)

thanks very much for your responses.
Marcus Ihlar: that is exactly what i've planned to do, if i choose a new sequencer program :-)
to make the start with cubase much easier, are there any useful docs / howtos on the net?
Looking forward to get a few links from you. |

well i don't really know any good links on that subject, but what i recommend is that you try the program out by your self and just ask questions here when you have problems.. |

I love Logic alot of artist use this great tool, you can make your whole track in midi so you can just draw out what YOU want ,and use the matrix editor to edit your sequence ,then you have the choice of using the built in sampler tool or import an audio track you may have recorded into WAV via ,wavelab or sound forge..then you can take each part on the midi side..mute out all except one track and arm the audio to record..hit record and let it play...it will record that sequence into audio and do this over and over, from this point you can adjust EQ and add effects without having to get external effects processors and stuff like that.just an example of the whole layout process...hope i was clear..hehe peace |

I actually found that using ACID Pro as a mixer (even though it is basically an off-line DJ tool), while I make all of my sequences on other programs - it may not be HDD space effective (can get to over 1GB per track), but the fact that ACID Pro is a powerfull mixer which doesn't put too much of a load on the CPU, and is strongly integrated with Sound Forge (both are made by Sonic Foundry).
If you don't use one main program but instead a combination of 3 or more (I use 11) programs as synthesizers, this is one of the most powerfull ways to work - sound-quality-wise. |

-acid pro -fruity tracks -cubase -logic audio -cakewalk -fruity loops by it self -various tracker (modplug tracker, impulse tracker .....) -rebirth -reason
