well... Do you ever burn your favourite tracks/the best tracks of diffrent compilations/albums on a separate cd, or save it on a diffrent folder on your Hard drive for prefrences?
If you do.. do you think this shouldnt be done.. as in it isnt ethical to seperate the good tracks from an artist compilation or the orignal source cd, espeacially if this cd gets to another person the whole meaning of selective listening is lost...
regardless of the Mp3 curse, What Im trying to say, in short is.. shouldnt sharing/seperating of good tracks from an artist album or compilation be avoided?
Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Well, its quite subjective. A compilation is meant to be heard as a set, so some tracks which arent 'good' may just be perfect for the part its supposed to play. So yea.. that way you're ruining the whole experience.
But in another way it is quite useful. For example, i usually pick tracks from comps or albums i like, and then place them in a certain spot in my playlist. If i burn cd's for anybody, its always crafted to be a story, and some tracks just work well while others dont. This should answer your 'selective listening' question.
I recently made a playlist i called 'mystical morning' and its sort of like a set i would play around 7:00 a.m onwards, but the tracks had to have that Cosma, Logic Bomb style. So i've included various artists the likes of Silicon Sound, Cyzum, Cosma, Optokoppler, Fatali, Trana and Aphid Moon. A long as they fit well into what i'm tryin to structure i dont really think it should matter where i got it from.

I have friends who like goa sometimes but really don't collect goa at all and don't have any knowledge,
and sometimes I make a compilation for someone, it's like the only goa cd they have,
and I always try to create a story like in mistery of the thirteen crystal skulls, not a compilation with 'hits' of if you know what I mean,
it's pure ment for homelistening so some advancment is cool,
I also dj so it's a bit the same just not mixed...

i dont think it should be avoided.
if the prupose is to listen to your favourite track, does it makes any difrence if you insert the cd and chose track 4 to listen and then change the cd and chose track 7 to listen and then change it again to listen track 3 playing ... wow this can be boring no? or you collect your favourits into one cd? it would make your life easier 4 shure. ethical issue would be to make your compilation of favourits from mp3 stolen tracks downloaded from internet. that would be un ethical. if you bought the original because you like 1 track why should you listen to the others? i really dont get it. saying this i must say in my opinion i usually dont bother to make compilations of my cds. because i dont have so much time to listen. In other hands YES i do like to isten to the hole concept of the track list and i dont bother at all of listening the all cd playing even if i know i only apreciate one or other. but this is not always. sometimes i put a cd t o listen just one or other but only if i havent done what i'll say next. what i usually do is i insert the cd chose the ones i like and convert to mp3 and add to library. usually i do this for commodity, no worries about compressions, just for the music sake and my comodity. should i be blamed? what for? hehe after all there is the option of converting to mp3 in my itunes for a reason hehehh i usually keep the cds "religiously" in my cd case collection. im kinda crasy about this and i like to keep them as new as they come heheh my 2 cents....

There are plenty of shoddy compilations out there that I will buy for one or two tracks... sometimes, if the rest is really bad, I will scrap it - pluck out the gems, and burn a fresh compilation of my own making... often I will sprinkle in some wave downloads I've made to spice it up. These also go into my catalogue/binder/etc so I can play out with this material and not have to lug around the dead weight of dodgy compilation filler.
