The review:

Second proggy compilation by Vertikal Records selected by Tomtron & Klangstrahler. Didn't find a review here yet, so let's go through the tracks.

Track 1: Jack Thursby, the name immediately suggests samples from the movie Cypher, and indeed it has samples from that movie. Anyway, quite light in vibe and a nice playful feel to it with those little sparkling melodies. A good opener which takes its time to build up and is all about smoothness.

Track 2: We start off with a padsound and some percussions. Soon the bassline and bassdrum come in and it's quite a funky little track. I don't know the original myself, but this sounds tight. In style it's quite like some of the tracks on the latest Symphonix album. Also, it's a little less melodic and more funky than for example the previous track. Anyway, a good track to keep things grooving along.

Track 3: Tomtron & Liesegang take over now, and they've got a more sharp electronic influence over it all while still remaining in the 4/4 beat area and not going all breakbeat style. A nice track, but this is one to play in the middle of a set to keep the crowd going for some time while the DJ searches for the next monster Still, this track is quite alright.

Track 4: We're going into deeper clubbier waters now. An electro influenced bassline with some percussion and little or no melody, just grooving along. Another one to be played in the middle of a set, there's nothing too upfront about it. It just grooves along pretty well without being outstanding. Good track, but not as good as tracks 1,2 for example.

Track 5: Sweat Attack at it, and this starts off almost immediately with some percussion, claps and a bassdrum. Hihats follow and this goes on for a while until the main lead comes in. Creates a nice sunny vibe and it's a bit more pronounced than tracks 3,4. At around 3:30 another melody comes in which sounds pretty nice. We then continue in the vein the track began before. Nice work, but that melody around 3:30 could've been used more.

Track 6: Solano then. They've had a few releases (debut album soon to be released on IONO) and this is a pretty nice standard psyprog track. Less clubby in sound and leaning more to the psytrance spectrum like artists like Audiomatic/Vaishiyas. Sounds tight, pretty long track, takes its time to build and is pretty fat in sound. I like it a lot. I'm hoping their debutalbum is going to be like this

Track 7: Starts off immediately. Snares, percussion, bassdrum. A female sample and then a simple bassline comes in. Somehow it reminds me of New Order's Blue Monday, but that'll be just me. I sometimes have strange audio-visions, hehehe Anyway, sounds a bit like Human Traffic does so you get the general idea. Quite a nice track. At 4:50 the track really gets loose and then it's groovy all the way to the end.

Track 8: Rounding off with a more clubby track and this has a strong vibe to it. A sample keeps repeating 'studioline' and it's a bit corny maybe (it reminds me of that hair stuff from L'Oreal if I'm not mistaken) but the song is kinda catchy in a certain way. By no means the best on here, but not bad.

Conclusion:

Ok, if you're looking for some more progressive you might want to check this out, there are some good tracks on here, particulary tracks 1,2,6,7 I like a lot and the rest is ok too. I'd give this an 8/10 but then I'm a progressive junkie myself Listen to the samples and decide for yourself.
