It's getting to be depressingly consistent. Has anyone else had problems with the security personal at the Hello BK venue? Every single time I'm there I witness (or am dragged into) very unpleasant altercations that stem almost exclusively from the abusive treatment meted out by the personnel there. Unusually I see several of these in the space of about 30m which it takes to get in. (Mainly because they spend so much time fighting with people but won't let any one else move until they've finished there fights.)
I'm asking because I wonder if there is anything that can be done about this. I know of quite a few people who have stopped going to parties there. Honestly I don't want to invite anyone to come out either because of the treatment my friends received last time made me feel very bad indeed. (Never mind the $90 we paid for entrance which we never got back after being barred from entry because i "sighed at the bouncer rudely".)
So i'm appealing to the community here. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is any one who is on friendly, or at least cordial, terms with the owner of the club who could put in a word or two on this? Or with the promotors maybe? Are there other people out there who share my opinion and experience with these people? Maybe if we there were more voices we could actually change something...
Frustrated!

Man, it wasn't that bad when I went there new years (not this past new years, the one before that).
You paid $90 to get in and didn't even get in? That would be about the time that I called the police and threatened lawsuits, to be honest. That's complete bullshit! |

i don't think most of these problems (which i've seen elsewhere too) are instigated by the bouncers. i think partygoers should try and act more responsibly, come prepared with ID and don't get bent out of shape when your bag of lettuce gets confiscated from your pocket. show some respect towards the bouncers and you will receive the same in return, in almost every case. there's always potential for some bad apples, but in general the bouncers aren't out to get you. |

Sounds like NYC needs more illegal warehouse parties to me!
Security doesn't give you problems because there is no security/we are the security |

@Shiranui - Unfortunately, at parties like your suggesting in NYC, the police are able to enter the event, which is often much worse then any problems with club security.
As for the bouncers at the Hook, I think people need to cut them some slack, and have a better attitude when dealing with them. If you are friendly with them, they will be friendly with you. They have to listen to their managment which makes the rules you might not like or agree with, they just enforce them if they want to keep their jobs.
For example, when they closed the outdoor area at 3 am (per regulations) and were forced to let people outside in small groups to smoke cigarettes, I saw numerous people start to get angry with the bouncers for not letting them out... that is totally uneccesary, what do you think they are doing it to make you have a bad time? When they have people out front the cops come in...so only 6-8 people out at once....
These bouncers in particular have always been very friendly to me, and once even confiscated a small dugout of mine, but then safeguarded it the whole night, and sought me out after the party to return it to me!!
My suggestion is to increase the number of people they have screening us / checking bags so that the line moves more quickly and people dont have to stand in the cold for 15 minutes waiting, even if only for the peak 2 hours when people are entering the venue...
Just my 2 cents....

They are only able to enter the event if they find out about it... be sneaky and they won't! NYC is a big place |

I do sort of agree with you guys but the guards are no angels. They booted two of my friends who were supposedly seen dealing illegal items which is completely faulse. The people thrown out have never done anything like this in their lives and had absolutely nothing illegal on them and tried to let them search them but it didn't matter. That is totally not cool.

Granted you can't really compare Asheville to NYC, but when that sort of shit started going down at a venue here, it was quickly boycotted by the community, and soon after that, almost the entire security staff was replaced.

Often the security staff is not even under the employ, but from a outside private firm that is under contract to the club.
If said club owner gets enough complaints about his hired goon squads, and begins to see his revenue suffer as a result, you can bet it wont take very long before the club switches security firms.
Take matters into you own hands. Start calling the club after hours and logging complaints. If enough complaints come in, sooner or later the situation will be forced to be addressed.

TBH the club owners probably make more money from other events and psytrance promoters don't have as much influence on the club owners as let's say a hiphop or house party where people drink a lot more. |
