Sectio Aurea is a two-person production and live act from Switzerland. Although many of the releases where one can find Sectio Aurea's music have been labeled as "dark psy" by many, their music falls into their own category. From funky, transposed basslines to mathematically complex drum arrangements to ever-evolving, every changing synth lines which seem to take on an alien life all their own, their music skirts the preconceived notions of all the established subgenres into a unique sound that stands on its own merit.

Having had the pleasure of meeting them and experiencing them on both sides of the DJ booth, I, for one, couldn't be more impressed by both their musical performance and production technique and their personal attitude as artists and people. In these days where so many live acts consist of static, prearranged Ableton sets, theirs is completely the opposite. They are constantly playing chords, tweaking hardware, and pushing the limits of their own sounds, as well as stitching together improvised loops and progressions using a track's most basic building blocks and building upward. The result is one of the most organic, unexpectedly surprising, eclectic arrangements of sounds I have heard, and after nearly ten years of immersion into this music I have yet to hear an act that parallels their sound, style and technique. They are a married couple, and this synergy shows itself well in their music and onstage.

As artists and people, they are also some of the most intellectual, humble, and truly inquisitive that I have encountered in the scene. They come to the performance without ego, are highly critical and analytical of their sound (something important for every true artist), and show a childlike curiosity and inquisitiveness towards new styles, tricks, techniques of others and carry the genuine attitude that there is always a new direction to go in, something new to learn. They strictly remain sober up to and during their performances, which suggests how seriously and professionally they take themselves, and when they show up to a city for a booking, their days are spent visiting all of the cities cultural, historic areas before sitting down to talk amongst themselves to analyze and plan their performance for every unique audience body, displaying amazing intellectualism and connection to humanity, both of their own and the audience they provide for.

I highly recommend this duo to fans of any genre of trance who's searching for a flavor of something new, refreshing and different.
