Just like the headline says. Secret Society has been giving a death threat. We need to play several parties this summer in the United States and beyond to hopefully buy our lives back from our murderous death-threater-person-guy.

If you wish for us to live, book us in your area soon! squee.isme@hotmail.com

No disrespect to Secret Society, but seriously this strikes me as bad taste.
While there is nothing wrong with self promotion.. Plug yourself, hype yourself when given the chance. This post to me just seems to be a plea for gigs.

Should a act not get booked on your own merits and on your reputation? Not because of a post on a forum?

@ paradigm... personally I disagree. To me it's a lot more humorous and personal than to use the run-of-the-mill "so-and-so is open for bookings in (x) place this (x) season" (ironically which is the one I used lol).

Sense of humor shows humility which is something a lot of us lack sometimes.

I'd rather see an act booked that has a sense of humor than one who seems uptight.

I'm not calling you uptight... I'm just sayin'.

@ Axis, valid points..
Tho, i personally find posts such as your previous one, this one, or those by any other producer or DJ saying, asking for, or alluding to being booked by stating their availability to be in poor taste and not be very professional.
Get booked on what you do, on your demos, who you know and what you bring to the table.
Not on handouts. Its the musical equivalent of standing on the corner saying " Hey buddy can you spare some change?"
Perhaps in all fairness its not right to lambaste Secret Society for it, but this post is a bit more blatant than the typical " So and So is open for bookings this summer"

ps... and yeah i can be uptight on things. No offense taken

Or... You can corner a promoter at a party and relentlessly plug yourself and plead your case for a gig...

just sayin...

We would love to have Secret Society play in Philadelphia some time soon!

Find every possible promoter from areas you are interested in and mail them your demo or email a link to 3-4 MP3s. Put up a website. Give people something to nibble on. Or die.

I know you have had tunes released on physical CDs that are probably easy to find online (at least in the preview format). Share those links!

Just a couple more small points... for the sake of discussion.

1. Sometimes promoters who are networked on forums such as this one inquire on artists when they may not be available. "Open for bookings" posts are an easy way to keep interested people up to date.

2. Semi-related... you can mail out stacks of CDs, hand them out to anyone you walk by at parties, and post on a forum. Either way, it's all self-promotion. A post like this one requires very little effort to effectively draw people's attention to what you've been doing.

3. It's one thing to make an informal post like this one, in a community forum where several participants know or have dealt with these guys personally already. It's another to spam forums and social networking sites which SS hasn't done in this case and I doubt they would do. I'd liken this case to posting a notice on a community bulletin board that many people in his social circle visit whereas my latter example above could be likened more to your panhandling example, perhaps.

(On that note, though, I see musicians all the time all over the world playing their instrument on the street corner and subway with an open case in front of them, hoping for handouts... I don't see shame in that, either. Even Buddha was a beggar...)

"Get booked on what you do, on your demos, who you know and what you bring to the table. "

Businesses, institutions, artists, and other entities promote relentlessly, all the time, using whatever available means, if they want to succeed. There are some serious techno-wizards out there who know shit loads about creating awesome music and rinsing out some of the sickest mixes for miles around who are practically invisible because they don't know how to, or don't care to, put their name out there.

I'm gonna share a small personal story with you via PM...

if you dont get the tongue in cheekness, then you dont understand the humour of the secret society.

they rock, for cereal....
a new album coming out soon, and a bunch of sick released tracks out there, its only a matter of time...
maybe u should post some links to your stuff here squee!

it is hard to get out there and play a bunch of shows, without getting out there and playing a bunch of shows so people know that u are playing a bunch of shows so you can play more shows, ya know?

oh mr. paradigm, you are so serious with your internet persona mode

oh and btw
i am also open for bookings worldwide
so is every other dj in the world hehehe
