I can personally recommend the RME Fireface 400 to you. I've had it for a while now & its been rock solid.

RME always update their drivers & firmware. The preamps on the FF400 are pretty good as well & you can add a Preamp later on if you feel the need.

I don't have any experience with the Ultralite but i heard some people have driver issues.

The Multiface II won't have any preamps, so the FF400 is the better choice.

Hope this helps!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Well... FF400 is kinda too much for me. Its too expensive in Israel. Maybe in a few months. I need something slightly cheaper than that.

I would recommend a secondhand creamware card and a secondhand soundcraft compact mixer... Easily less than 1000$ IMHO           I don't use ideas. Every time I have an idea it's too limiting, and usually turns out to be a disappointment. But I haven't run out of curiosity. -RR

Bhooteshwara Records
Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.

Well apogee is kinda too expensive to mee. If ill wait like a month and squeeze some cash from payments im supposed to get, i may be able to get FF400, but thats the top i can afford and even that is too much....

Apogee....no second hand of those in Israel

what can you tell me about that one http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/32d0b0893b2abf3906dd7611ca0a419a.jpg

i have that one and diskonekt also and we are both super happy.
stable, clean and good preamps.

but i will suggest something from rme they are the best in the pc world in the 1000$ price range.

motu rocks but they are dodgy in the pc world they are ment to be for macs.

tc konekt are also very nice.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

Well, I'm using the Ultralite @Internet/Gaming PC with Vista 64bit and on my XP based production PC, both without ANY problems.

Problems seem only to appear, if you're not using a Texas Instruments Firewire Chipset. I got my card for 10€ and it's working perfect.

heyy I got the same decision to make few weeks ago

I went for motu ultralite rather than the fireface cause I couldnt see any big advantages that justify the 300€!! more...

I'm more than happy with it...my old pc card is also a 1212m, and the direct comparsion with the same tracks show a big difference! the preamps are also really good...tested them already both at once with sennheiser mics

but the biggest fact for me were that I switched to mac, cause motu drivers are just rock solid with macs

so you see whats my advice

oh and if you want to hear more stuff on it, checkout unicornation...its an unofficial, but really big and propper forum for motu gear

be careful with these ones' drivers and stability though, i had problems with it and had to change it (i switched to RME that works perfectly, easier use and better drivers updates)

I know the converters are a bit better, but I doubt the quality is that huge that it justifies 300€ more like I said...if I want or need better converters any time when I can afford it and feel it would make such a big difference for my music (cause right now, the only way the converters affect the product is the stuff coming from my virus it would just make sense really with at least some outboard fx and a mixer with sound going out and back in) I would rather invest a bit more and get a metric halo or apogee card
