I've been using Izotope 4/5 for the last 6 months or so and its great.

However - I don't use the harmonic exciter on the low frequencies - don't like how it sounds.

Be extremely wary of 'enhancer' type plugins, especially on the lowend. More often than not its just a dirty boost.

Low end coherence/clarity/power comes primarily from the interaction between the kick and the bass and how those two elements are shaped/programmed.

that being said, check out the plugs from

http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/

they're all free VSTs, and FerricTDS in particular is great on the kick/bass bus, BootEQ does wonders on the kick drum, and Thrillseeker LA is good all over the place. Very nice plugs.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

yes i think it may sound nice. in some cases. more often i switch it off after listening to it on a mix or individual track.

don't be afraid to put it on the master channel. this is just the same tool and a limiter or eq. try it and if it sounds good - leave it there. anyways it doesnt hurt.

but indeed use not much of the effect, as it might sound very nice on the first listen but later on when u compare processed signal to the original you may find that the original was somehow better.

i do, but it is useful when you mix recorded material mostly. just because you can't change the patch in this case guys like pensado find use on this plugs on vocals too!

also use its direct purpose (check the manual).

not about the manual.. its about its way it effects the lo end,, feels n sounds "to much".

a pultec native eq (boost/attunate) ... from softtube works for me.. on a kick drum then.. compression, maybe limiter after.

maxxbass is not about boosting, it is about making deep low bass translate correctly on small speakers.
