Scrollbar not working in Mozilla

I cannot read the forums in Mozilla 1.2b (Mac OS 9.1). The scrollbar that is within the window disappears, and the normal scrollbar does not actually scroll the screen when I move it.
On Mozilla 1.6 (on a friend's machine) the scrollbar within the window disappears, but the normal scrollbar works.
Upgrading to Mozilla 1.6 is not an option for me because of my old OS. And please do not tell me to install IE; I refuse to install MS on my Mac.

Thanks! You are so much more helpful and willing to try to find a solution than the other sites I've been dealing with. They all insist I have to use IE and otherwise they can't help me.
