Scanner is an artist I have found very impressive. Has anyone else heard his work? What did you think?

Scanner aka Robin Rimbaud is a genius. Conceptual artist, between sounds and images, many collaborations with museums (sound installations for exibitions) and movies, amazing records on different labels (very interesting the collaboration with DJ Spooky on Sulphur Records). He runs Bette, his own label.

Yep, it's a very interesting artist, a pioneer, one of the first experimenting with music and visuals since beginning of the nineties.

check http://www.scannerdot.com

and http://www.posteverything.com (this is an english label home of Leaf Label , with Manitoba(!!), Murcof(!!!), Susumu Yokota(!!!!) and many more interesting ambient/electronica producers in its roster, a bit more arty and conceptual. But we need some of them nowadays....           ::Memento:Audere:Semper::

How funny that you should be the one to reply to that Nova. I heard one of your ambient mixes the other day and it had some of the headspaces more commonly journeyed into by these sorts of producers. I have been a big scanner fan for a while and thought the peeps here would appreciate it.
Have you checked out his EP with Kim cascone (the chrystal address)? I've just lent my copy to Humphrey and I'm hoping he will post something about it up here.

I will get that info nova ( I know the EP is called "The chrystal Address" ).

I have been listening also to "52 spaces" by scanner this week. He came to perform this album in oxford (where I live) last year and it is very impressive. It is sampled from 52 shots in an antonioni film set in Rome where scanner wrote it. He played it with the film stills projected behind him.

I played the tracks at some parties last summer just to create a vibe while people were arriving and it was crazy. The production isn't swanky or bizarre and there is very little melody but the atmosphere is very deep.

I always wanted to find ambient tracks with those sort of atmospheres but more melodies and the only place I really found it was in Greg Hunter's solo material. I don't own any copies of it but friends have played me hours of rare tapes by Greg and the depth of his atmospheric concoctions is pretty astonishing.

Recently I have also been listening to Evan parker's electro-accoustic ensemble and Mimeo (two other groups that approach ambience in a way that is comparable to Scanner's but using accoustic instruments fed through effects one is jazz instruments and the other classical).

It is great to DJ these sounds because you can effect them, track up many at oncwe and intersperse them with full melodic tracks. It takes a bit of practice though.

Please write if you have thoughts on these ideas.
