i think with core2duo or quad processors and 8 gb of ram vista will make musicmaking very comfortable.

Such a beast of a machine would make producing on vista quite good, but producing on xp much better. xp runs faster and more stable + it supports alot more than vista (at least for now), so i see no reason why anyone should switch to vista. if u want to switch, switch to linux or osx

I agree, but you can't have more than 4GB ram on a winxp 32 bit. And if you upgrade to 64 bit, you may have some incompatible hardware

or use server2003 enterprise (32gb supported) and disable all unnessery services and turn it into a workstation. i didn't try it.. but maybe it even works better than vista. |

LOL you really don't get it do you, if they stop sell XP then its just a matter of time they stop supporting it and then you won't have any buggfixes or improvements on the kernel.

But it's pretty stable as it is...so we don't need lots of bugfixes for it.
As for the 4 gb memory limit...I don't really cre. I have 1gb and I am thinking about upgrading to 2, but as I usually record hardware and use plugins for maybe only 30% of sound, it's not such a big issue. Usually 10-12 tracks is fine for me.
I agree with Alistair that it's better to fix Vista and make it solid. Personally I doubt I will move to Vista this year as it doesn't really offer any benefits for me, most of the improvements are for networking and security. |
