lol. stopping the sale of windows xp is not gonna stop anyone from using it.

So, what's the point, really !

Futhermore, isn't best if vista gets up to speed with xp for audio rather than us staying with xp indefinitely....

my pc is working under winxp for more than a year, without reinstall, very very stable, but if it crashes someday i think i'll try Linux, it seems to become suitable OS for music production now...           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

LOL you really don't get it do you, if they stop sell XP then its just a matter of time they stop supporting it and then you won't have any buggfixes or improvements on the kernel.
When was the last time you saw a buggfix for win 98?

I say keep on selling XP until Vista actually has a argument why you should choose vista over XP, cause im not impressed with Vista, Vista is so far the new WinME, nuff said

xp has been around for a long time therefore there isn't much that needs to be added.

as for the new technologies which between us aren't exactly ground breaking for audio...it will force devellopers to adapt to vista. Its so obvious you can still buy a new laptop with xp on it. why should develloper bother.
just like xp, vista need sometime to be ready for all type of applications including audio.

When xp came out it was the exact same story... you just need a first service pack and time for devellopers to fully integrate vista..

by giving a date this give time for people to adjust.
it'll be just fine. this is a transition period that's all

I don't agree, win me was really an update of win98 no exactly much different from 98 except it worked better.

Nothing needs to be added, but you can always make it better. Do you even think that it would have been a SP3 if Vista wasnŽt sucha failure it already is.
Then again, weŽll see how much of an upgrade SP1 is when people start to benchmark it.

I guess thats why WinME made number 4 in the Top 25 Worst Tech Products by PC-world

Edit: Number 6 in the "Top 10 worst products" by Cnet http://www.cnet.com/4520-11136_1-6313439-1.html

Hey Peter, u crazy wiskey priest ;-) Is this really true? I donŽt get it. As u know i use Vista. And have had no problems at all.

Also if u read this:
http://www.thewhippinpost.co.uk/news/vista-review-for-musicians.htm#1

There seems to bee a fair part of improvements from Xp,.. atleast to my "untrained" eyes. But im not at all as techy as u are, so i dont understand most of it.

But i use everything that have a bad rep, and is not pro or cool:
Vista
Fl studio
Dell
Juli@ soundcard
Behringer monitors

Satisfied with all. (Tough drivers for the souncard is still beta for Vista and sometimes i have to reload them..)

I tried using FL studio 7 on my laptop with vista. I was fairly usable, but now after I have installed XP, I can run 5-6 more VST's in the same project and only using the same amount of CPU.

I vote for XP           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk

In Vista there's a new type of low-level audio driver, called WaveRT. It works with low latency to the hardware-access.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa474703.aspx

But... unfortunately only a few audiocards support this driver

And.. WaveRT only runs with internal devices.. not Firewire or USB. So anyway the vendors drivers bypass the built-in audio enginge with the Asio one.

hmm hope for a better asio integration than..

cheers..

anyway i'm still using xp.. too much latency on vista with my terratec phase x24 (double of it... eaakk)

Did any of you try to optimize Vista for audio?
XP doesn't work perfect out of the box, but since we all know how to do basic optimization there, we do it immediately without even thinking about it. Not sure this is the same with Vista..

i think with core2duo or quad processors and 8 gb of ram vista will make musicmaking very comfortable.

Such a beast of a machine would make producing on vista quite good, but producing on xp much better. xp runs faster and more stable + it supports alot more than vista (at least for now), so i see no reason why anyone should switch to vista. if u want to switch, switch to linux or osx
