Jon Sloan, owner of Bouncing Bear Botanicals, has been falsely charged with manufacturing and distributing controlled substances, for growing and selling plants which you can buy at walmart and home depot.
The authorities have ALREADY taken ALL of his money INCLUDING HIS SIX YEAR OLD SON'S SAVINGS ACCOUNT, as well as his car, and he is not allowed to run his business as a term of his bond (which was initially set at $900,000, a high number for someone who just had all of his money confiscated!)

I suspect that many of you are already familiar with Jon's website (bouncing bear botanicals) and many of you have benefitted from his business whether you know it or not.
I hope that some of the more resourceful and fortunate within our family will be willing to help our brother overcome this outrageous injustice. |

I have to say that's a really sad story in many ways and it makes me sad for that family and for this country.
I have a question though. Can anyone explain the details behind this quote from the article?
"What is the drug tax? All illegal drug dealers in Kansas are required to buy “Drug Stamps.” They then must put the stamp on the bag of marijuana or cocaine to show they have paid the tax on that illegal drug. This is the way the government can seize private property in the event of a drug bust. "You haven't paid your drug tax? Cool! We get to take all your stuff!""
Is that for real? I've never been to Kansas so I have no clue what this is about. Who makes illegal drug dealers do this stamp thing? What point in their transactions does this occur? Before arrest? After? Is there some kind of government office where you go and buy drug stamps? I just can't imagine illegal dealers actually putting government issued stamps on anything. So, if they get arrested, and they don't have the stamp, they have to pay a huge fine? But if they do, they are ok somehow? That whole thing seems strange. Just wanted to ask.

Well, in answering my own question, here is some more information on the topic.
http://www.kansan.com/news/2010/feb/04/police_officer_herbs/
It seems this is an FDA raid, not a DEA raid, and researching some of the plants listed, it's controlled in the manner that the FDA regulates and taxes it. Other articles talk about stores and vendors being raided for selling K2 and synthetic pot, and other things in plant form. Apparently in Kansas there are bills pending for further control which have actually not gone through yet. Not to mention the legality status of the substances listed on the website seem to check out (beyond FDA taxation control)

Above is a link to a blog from the owner's father. Apparently Kansas is a pretty draconian place for this thing to go down and it's the first in a series of raids there. In my opinion, they are unfairly throwing the book at him, and I sincerely hope they get the support they need.
