I have always had trouble writing long tracks, all my music seems to end around the 7 minute mark, so this is my attempt at a 13 minute song.
I would love some feedback regarding the flow of this song, I seemed to have a hard time keeping up the pace and want to hear it through fresh ears.
Thanks for listening.

It's decent, but it's too long. Don't produce a 13 minute track if it's repetitive. |

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't help me improve much.
Elaborate, why do you think it's repetitive?
As I said, I have had trouble keeping up the flow, psytrance is repetitive as a general rule so what are the aspects you don't like or what do you think repeats too much?
I wanted to make a long track, it was the aim of writing this so just saying 'it's too long' doesn't give me much to work on.
Help a brother out!

I haven't heard the track yet, but you might want to change your name...
There is already a Satori in Psy (Pete Martin and Sean Williams)....See Liquid Sky song...great track
Unless you're them, you should probably choose something unique...I would hate for you put forth a lot of effort in brand marketing only to have to start over at some point.

The bass is really tight. What you can do to keep it from being repetitive is move the bass notes around. I noticed after the quote, you moved the bass from being on all 'a' notes to 'b flats' then to 'g,' but you can take this to the next level.
Try out making some bass lines that have the notes jumping like kick.a2.a3.a2. kick.a2.c3.a2 kick._.a._. kick._a._.
I hope you can see what i'm trying to get at here.
Also, your bass doesn't have to roll with three notes all the time, especially with your quick rhythmic leads and sound fx.
Your sound is really good though. I think you should add some pads to create some more atmosphere, and to help glue everything together in some parts.
Also, you can vary up the hi hats from being straight rhythms by messing with their placement. You could have some parts of your song too where there is no bass, just straight up kick and some cool fx stuff going on.
You could also look into more voicings of chords for your leads and pads. Minor thirds, minor 7ths, stuff like that to try to come up with some catchy riffs.
You have a ton of solid sounds though, so you have all the colors, all you have to do is paint.

Thanks for the great reply Obelisk, this is what i'm after.!
I have started doing another mixdown of this track with a few more atmospheric pads and it seems to add a lot.
Same with the percussion, I always tend to end up with fairly straight forward hi-hats, snares etc, guess that just comes down to laziness sometimes.
Your reply has helped me a lot, it's so hard to get good constructive criticism sometimes
ps: Maska, yeah I know of the other Satori, found their music after I had released tracks and built a bit of a reputation here in Australia and in some other parts of the world.
Got a track coming out on Helicon sound system records soon under Satori and I think it's too late to change.
Anyway, Pete and Sean only released a few tracks under that name and it was more goa trance not Darkpsy. Two very different styles of trance.
I have thought about changing my name a lot because of this but the way I figure it is 'the older Satori' will never release anymore so i'm keeping it.
There are Satori's all over the place, folk music, ambient, drum and bass and even a metal band.
There was even another Satori here in Australia who started producing psy.
What's in a name hey? |

Just thought I'd point that out if you werent already aware...
Actually a name means a lot, really....I was just speaking to someone today in fact that was not into Psy. I asked him if he knew infected (that is always my starter). he knew them, because he thought the name was so interesting and he ended buying one of their albums (Classical too. Also because the name stood out more than their other albums). not to mention brand recognition. I heard satori play in japan with tsuyoshi before I knew who they were and still about 13 years later, I remember them, even though it was only a few tracks...
If they don't care, the only harm I see would be if I bought your album, thinking it was theirs...Bad for me, good for you (of course that is without hearing your music. It could be the opposite. Point being, I would be expecting something different)
Anyways, if it works for you and they don't care, go with it.

On another note, songs are nice. I like the shiftiness..The length, maybe too long....I would say, keep it, but shorten it if you plan to release it.
If you DJ, would be nice to mix in and out of a long track like that...
I like how your songs Roll....Back to the Future is nice....Nothing wrong with short and sweet.
