Samplitude 8 some amazing features

I've been checking out Samplitude 8 for a while and it seems as if alot of things are really well thought out in it. I was wondering if anybody had more experience with it and could post their experience or thoughts about it.

reasons I really am begining to like it alot:

1. Automation in Samplitude seems to be just amazingly better than in cubase.
All your automation is done right on top of your Midi tracks so you can see exactly what you are automating over. You can display lots of automation right on top of each other. Also when you go into the automation menu for vsti's or vstfx, you get a drop down menu that shows you all the names for the different things you can automate, right on top of the midi of course. It reminds me of logic.

2. Freezing is by far superior. Your frozen parts are displayed as the audio, right over the top of where the midi used to be (and outputs to the same mixer channel). It includes any amount of tail that sound uses. You can copy and paste this audio and move it around. If you make a copy of it or duplicate it a few times, when you unfreeze it it replaces the audio with the midi that was there before, even on the parts you copy and paste or chop up, just amazing.

Also lets say you wanted to change just one note on a frozen part. You can go into edit mode which pulls up the midi notes and then you change what you need, or change automation and when you close it, it automatically makes a new audio part for what you did. Also the freeze function seems to process a hell of alot faster too.

3. Samplitude does not differentiate between midi and audio tracks or vsti tracks. You can have audio and midi(and vsti audio)on the same track. So you could have a frozen part, or some audio and the very next bar could be midi again. All the audio for a track be it from a vsti or from audio all goes to the same track on the mixer.

4. The mixer is more like a professional board. Each channel has a built in delay, and a parametric eq. Which of course only use processor when activated. It also just looks sweet.

5. The audio engine somehow sounds sooo much clearer than anything else I've heard, I don't know how but it just does. It also seems that you can be more precise about your level adjustments.

6. The plugins that come with it are simply amazing. The delay for example on every channel shows you a display of the delay taps along a grid and you can adjust the delay to fit the grid however you want. It also just sounds good.

7. All windows can be placed outside of the program, so if you have a dual monitor setup, you don't have to extend it to the second monitor you can just drag a window over to it outside the program, like the mixer for example.

Basically this is what I've seen so far, some of the things are done very different from cubase so it's hard to catch on quickly.

The main downside is that the full blown version is about $1000 u.s. dollars. About the same as logic.

If you have any experiences with it please share them here I'd like to know. Thanx

Hi. Their website is over here: http://www.samplitude.com/

I've been using the classic Samplitude V7 for some years now and I prefer it over Wavelab for audio editing/collages and burning audio CDs. The sound engine is in fact pretty good.

whoops, sorry about that WAVELOGIX. Thanx audioschotter for posting that up.

Version 8 has much better midi capabilites now. It's interesting though, because they came from the opposite direction as cubase. Samplitude started with just Audio and moved into midi and Cubase was the other way around. But this puts their audio editing and manipulation far ahead of Cubase.

Another interesting thing, if you're playing a vsti on a midi track and you rewind with the jog wheel it actually plays the audio from the vsti backwards, so it sounds like audio playing backwards.

I guess Samplitude has been around for a long time and has gone through the hands of many companies.

I may be sticking with this I think

I don't have any decent hardware synths anymore, but plan on purchasing a couple in the future again.

Can somebody with a synth test out the midi timing to make sure it syncs up good? Kind of a big request I know, but if someone gets around to it while testing it, I'd appreciate if they would post their experience back here.

Thanx ahead of time.

I have Samplitude v.8, It is a very good program to use for a complete Mixdown after you done all writting in Cubase.

The only thing is that I cannot find the option for activating VST plugins, It only sees the DirectX ones.

If you guys know the way of VST activation, please post.

Hi, Entertopia.

I would have to ask a pal who uses Sam8 (I'm still on the 7 classic), but I think it's like you have to drag&drop the *.dll's into Sam as far as I remember.

For those in the UK theres also a free full running light version called "Sam8 SE" in the Computer Music magazine. http://www.computermusic.co.uk/main.asp

There was also a free SE version with German KEYS magazine, well for beginners certainly a good alternative.

While samplitude is running, press "Y" on your keyboard. This will pull up the audio/preference menu. There should be a spot in there where you tell samplitude where you keep your vst instruments e.g. C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vst, it will then scan all of them and you can use them in the same place you would have loaded DX ones.
