I saw the new transformer movie last week, though the story was pretty much crap the visuals and sound were top notch.
Focusing on the sound fx design I was really impressed. There was this part where all these little metal balls were falling on the ground and it was making some the neatest sounding zippy bouncing sounds I've heard.
Some of the maschine sounds were very amazing too.
Being inspired from the sounds I looked into the creation of them a bit and found out that they had found all kinds of maschines and anything that made a cool sound and sampled it.
I don't really have a great micrphone but I think I'm going to get one very soon.
Does anybody here do a lot of sampling with real world sounds?
Also I was curious if anybody has any suggestions for a nice microphone portable or not that would be good for general purpose high detail sampling?

I searched all over you tube and cant find that old school acid track with birds transforming but it pretty simple, u take some bird pattern and recreate it with acid and then just cross-fade the loops.. but no use byting that, its unique
also I dont have online that track with my "local birds" since its very old..
I used my kitchen blender once as a build up whoosh sound..
but that trakc is also not online..
however, there is remix of that track some local guys did, u can check it out here, its almost first sample at start of the track

first track in the player Acidkills - Rhythm machine(Syntax RMX)
(Acidkills was my nick once)..
also once while returning home from a party there was this divine silence in the train, silence I never experienced before, and I had a chance to record the hydraulics of a train door which sounded too psychedelic, unfortunately quality of rec. on cell phone is too bad to use it..

I used to have a microtrack portable recorder and in the month I owned it (I sold it to afford my current monitors) I recorded SO much cool stuff that I used in lots of tracks that helped give it a much more organic feel.
I miss it so much (but I did get some K&H0300 out of it!) when I get some spare cash I'll buy another portable mic.
My favourite recordings were M&Ms spilling into a granite worktop and a ruler being twanged over the edge of a table and being moved longer and shorter.

I just bought a Zoom H2, so I guess it's time to let the sampling begin
I'll try and remember to post again in this thread once I've done a bit of sampling in case anybody is interested in how it's going.
Thanks for the info K
