hey guys ,
i just got some AKAI Sample CD's ... the nicebytes Synthline series .. if you know ...
some have the Virus and the Korg trinity sounds on them .... ok .. now im using Halion Sampler and i load the samples frm these into halion and prgram the leads accordingly ...
but no matter what i do ... these samples sound really "thin and lifeless" compared to the vsti like vangurad and albino ... when i play the same tunes on them ...
i dont understand , how could these samples suck soo hard ? or maybe thts one of the reasons why you should actually have a hardware synth [ off topic ]
getting back to the point .. most of these are single and mono samples .... dont know what the fuck to be done with them ... or maybe just continue using the vsti [ which sound better anyways ] and chuck these samples ? |

Maybe the sampler does some interpolation to play the samples at different pitches ? I don't know if every not at every pitch is sampled, but it could be that playing the sampled sounds at lower pitches results in lower sample-rates and hence duller soundski's. Any which way, i would prefer a synth i can tweak anytime. |

i dont think so , Halion is a wery widely used sampler .. so dont really think this is possible ... some fuck with the samples only i guess !

As far as I remember these Nicebytes CDs are out of a very cheap collection of sample CDs (compared to the price of other AKAI Cds), so the samples are probably not the best quality. |

don't use sample cd's for synth sounds !
theres too much "ready-made-psytrance" out there already. |

Sure use them if they sound good. But if not then don't
"theres too much "ready-made-psytrance" out there already. "
What, where is "ready-made-psytrance"? Tell me!!
Don't talk bad stuff without facts man.
U can write complete tracks just with samples and tweak the shit out of them

"ready-made-psytrance" - all the stuff that comes out these days that basically gets prepared like a "ready-made-meal". all the ingredients are already there, add a little bit of extra flavour and you have your new KILLER! don't need facts to explain this man - its plain to see.
and you can definitely write complete tracks with samples - thats what so many people are doing, and thats exactly what im advising against.
you could ofcourse tweak them to the extent that they sound nothing like the original - but then why use a sample, might as well start your synthesis from scratch.

ok guys .... illusions ---> i dont agree with what you say ... who the fuck says ... after i use samples from sample cd's im going to make "ready made trance" ....
talk to the point man ! if you know some good sounding sample cds let me know ... dont tell me , what i can make or not with the freakin samples ...!
hey fuzzi ---> compression will help for sure ... but mate .. u must understand .. i need the "raw" material to sound good in the first place ... compression i only need if i need to alter the dynamics of my material .. which i honestly dont think is the case here ...
respect .. chandan ! |

if the raw material sounds bad then there's nothing you can do.
'can't polish a turd' and all that. |

For comparison: "Volkswagens are widely used cars, so i don't think it's possible their motors use gears".
The fact that Halion is widely used doesn't tell me anything about the algorithms Halion uses internally. To pitch a sample it will probably perform some kind of Fourier transformation, but the exact number of discrete cosines the transformation uses or how it rounds or dithers the results may differ between programs. So, blablablabla [insert strange term here] bla blabla bla. Bladiblabla bla.
To conclude: if it sounds like a turd, flush the bastard and find another sound |
