I have a doubt about sample/track quality. First of all I have a shit soundcard. I think itīs on-board, donīt know exactly. But quality is same(or very close) as on-board.
Well, I want to know is: if I pass Reason Sound Bank cd-sample to wav(cause I want to use ONLY Cubase, not Reason rewire with Cubase), this sample will have good quality?
HOw I make it? PLay a "track" on Reason with sample I want to have in wav. Pass all to wav(I do care about sample that are longer that sounds, so no two sample together), and cut all in Sound Forge. Will I have a good sample after this work?
PS1:I donīt want to use Reason+Cubase cause I think only Cubase needs less computer performance, but Iīm not sure about this too....
PS2? Audiophile soundcard is a nice choice for a sound card???? Any other suggestions, but with similar price/features????
10x in advance.

Well Yuli, I have the same felling about absynth, thatīs why I donīt use it! I use basicly FM7,PRO 53,Battery and Kontak.
Noone else??? I need some help to decide if I really need a new soundcard, or I need only to practice....
I know a new soundcard is always better, but I donīt want to spend the cash, and donīt get better tracks....

well the audphile is nice but go for the luna or rme if you want some serious quality. besides if your computer is that slow than think first of a new computer this is were it begins. as long as you dont work with real audio synth than the quality of your work can be changed. ( go and hear what you made on another place with monitors see the changes you need in your sound and make them at home again.. ) soundcard is for recording and hearing quality in your case basically hearing quality. btw kontakt is a monster in terms of cpu usage aswell the fm7. just work with changing them to wav.
about the reason well i hate that program but i think you cant change the sounds to wav. bom |

I recently bought Absynth and yes its very cpu hungry.. but on the other hand its one of the best sounding s/w synths i have heard so go with soundsergeon's point..
If you can, try and get a pro low end sound card like audiofile 24/96 and you'll see what a nice difference to sound you get.. then again what speakers do you have..... |

Well SOund Sourgeon, I didnīt throw Absynth away. But NOW I only want to make a LOUD track.... and I canīt make it, thatīs the point. I actually made a track with Absynth, and synth sounds great.
To Jacky: my PC is not that slow... P3/850,256ram,100HD. I just donīt know if my real problem is my soundcard, or I canīt make nice and loud tracks yet.... And I can change Reason bank to wav!!! As I said, U only have to sequence ALL sample u want, export track as wav file and cut it at Sound Forge. Thatīs what I did, but I donīt know if the final sample has a nice quality.
To steve: Audiophile 24/96 is soundcard some ppl tell me is good to make what I want. The price is about U$200-250. And I use my stereo to listen sound from pc. Itīs not like monitors...
If someone has patient enough to help me, pls send me a pvt message or add me on icq/MSN. I will send my track, and u will realise what kind of problem Iīm having. The track is 0.0 db, no clip!!!

if you export them in 44100 16 bit mode and have the "High Interpolation" light on the quality will be the best quality your sound card can give you...
of course exporting them would to mean load them in samplers or drum machine channels, copy patterns to sequencer and then export them...
that's a lot of work for the whole soundbank...

I only export samples I wanted to Kosmos. But yes, a lot of work. But cause I hadnīt any samples to make tracks without Reason.
I was wondering only how much this quality affects my track volume/quality....

for the volume (in case you didn't notice that), if you use ASIO DirectX drivers (and not Multimedia drivers) Reason always play the track at a lower volume... the wave file will have a higher volume..
(that's the main reason for many people to believe that Reason doesn't have a good sound quality..)

if u got a serious sound card, try exporting the wav 24 bit 96Khz (A HUGE File about 350 megs to 8 mins...) and try 2 master it w wavelab... it should do the trick.
i recommend using cool edit pro for editing wavs.
it really kicks ass.
goodluck anyway. |

Thx Plan_B!!! First of all I donīt have a serious sound card(now Iīm working with SB16, but my real soundcard can be worse than SB ). But I think it should be a nice idea esporting on 24/96 when I get a new soundcard.
Btw, I use Sound Forge, and for me thereīre no much difference using SF, Wavelab or Cool Edit.... Are there many differences?
