Hey folks! i have been looking quite alot for samples where doors are closing, and things are dropped on the ground, maybe even knives being sharped, those sounds that are quite often used in fullon intros, have you guys any of those? yeayeayee, i know the majority of you enjoy nighttime music the most, but its worth the try!            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

Get a microphone an record item dropping on different surface, then add fx.

But yeah those heavy cinematic hits just come from layering and processing lots of samples... some libraries are just killer, cant afford

I got a usb voice recorder device from an office store a few years ago, and it's been great for getting tons of samples very easily. It's not the most hifi sound you could imagine, but it works surprisingly well.

A 100 euro recorder + a visit to an abandoned industrial facility and you have both fresh air and fresh samples Or just record household items and have fun pitching them down in a more "scary" register.
Ever seen foley artists work? Sometimes the sound you need comes from unexpected sources.

Sampling from movies usually mean sampling from a low rate mp3 stream (summing many of those in a mix would result in a loss of clarity compared to sampling closer to the source ie. dvd or bluray etc.) As to the stereo mic needed....Well most foley is actually sampled in mono using 2 different mics to have some sonic variety to choose from (a large diaphragm condenser and a highly directional shotgun mic)

Stereo can be useful in some instances but for close up miking mono makes way more sense as it is easier to place a mono source precisely in the soundstage compared to stereo (for the sake of flexibility all handheld recorders i know of have stereo mics, and stereo can be summed to mono if needed)

Once the fruit season really kicks in, i have a date in my kitchen with some melons and sharp objects (plus my recorder naturally)           Mastering available here:

Hello Oni. If I remember correctly you are on Logic?
If you are, open Apple Loops (or press "o" in arrangement view) go to:
>By Instruments>FX and then look into the 2536 samples in there. I am sure I've heard some of the sounds you mentioned in there, there's some really good ones.
Although if you have the time, recording them on your own with a mic would be a very nice way of having your own.

Peace out.
