I don't know if VOIDCOMM is still reading this forum but I have to say that his attitude reminds me on how Nicola Tesla answered the similar question. When asked how he feels about numerous ideas that others have stolen from him he said:
"I'm not sorry for the ideas they've stoled from me but I feel sorry for them not having any of their own ideas."

... and on the 8th day God created internet           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception"

This community never ceases to amaze me. Russian sites with riped mp3 albums gets pages and pages of debates and judgment but stealing from demo tracks rises no eyebrow!?!?

So is it common way to get popular around here or you're all afraid of judging fellow producer who runs a label?

Ethics indeed           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception"

well i`ve tried sevral times in the past to open a thread about a certain artist (not to name a name but we all know who i`m talking about) faking a live show.
not only that ... this artist can only be booked for live acts. no dj sets. needless to say my threads were shut down and the moderators asked me politly not to "diss" on "respected artists" even though i did not insult anyone or use improper langauge. i was just laying down the facts.....
so hearing about this "sample stealing" does not raise any eyebrowse because we all know this kind of behavior from this artist in the past.
wasnt there an issue with domestic or someone a few years back?
sorry to see such ppl succeed so big and get away with it ... but i guess thats the ugly face of this scene these days....
too much ego and rockstar atitudes not enuogh p.l.u.r
and psychadelic journeys.....

but i sure hope this is just one bunch and not the whole scene which acts in such foul ways.

and now to the original matter at hand:
i have nothing against sampilng movies... it can be funny it can be serious it can be phylosophical. so why not.
i`m also all for recording your own speeches... whatever works for you and for the track. sometime a sampled speech can put in exact words what you want to say with your track... so why not use it? just because you didnt think of those words yourself ?
not all of us have a way with words or the voice for recording.

and someone mentioned pink floyd.... well they did sample an old war movie in "the wall" somewhere. so did guns and roses "what we have here is a failure to communicate..."
just a few examples that popped to mind..

Well I guess it all boils down to what you use, how you use it and why you use it. The way I see it with movie (or other sources like McKenna) samples you can do a number of different things:

1. you can INTEGRATE something worth integrating in your work...
2. you can EMULATE success of something by using parts of it or...
3. you can COMPENSATE lack of ideas with adding something recognizable to otherwise faceless piece of music.

So it's a subjective point of view (what other point of view do we have at all) and yes... one can sample McKenna and make it sound great while others will do the same and make a shit out of it. In exactly the same way as a good meal with nice spices gets even better but junk food with any amount and variety of spices always stays junk.

Anyway... thumbs up for the community dedicated to degrade any remaining values in the trance scene by promoting materialism, money value and rite of the "strongest takes it all".           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition.
