Kontakt 2 from native instruments beats all other samplers.

hardware pr software... Nostalgia might be a factor for akai-users... or whatever..

Still.. nothing beats it, even halion.. halion can not timestretch in realtime.

I was never a 'sampling' person, I just used Kontakt for years to lay down my drum tracks. Recently I borrowed my mates AKAI S3000XL and I am amazed by the difference in sound quality. Editting is a bit harder but it's worth getting used to.

As for the Hardware/Software issue, I think many of us are after that feeling that you're in a spaceship that you get from hardware. When I use software, I feel like a geek rather that an alien and that ruins my fantasy

(I feel bad though because I've always been more of a software person because I can't afford hardware)
