I desperately need one. At first I was thinking about an ultra5000, but I can't afford one right now... Maybe I'll get a used ESI3000 or something.. I don't know any soft-synths with equalk sample editing capabilities...does anybody? |

Yes, but there's no point in buying a whole virtual studio when all I need is a sampler. |

a sampler is good for cooking, cleaning the house, u can take it for long walks on the sea side or just sit and watch tv with it... what do u think a sampler is for?! for sampling!! its like this box, with shit loads of buttons with which u take sounds (u "record" them on the sampler) and apply many veriables (effects and stuff) on them and off course u r able to play them with the keyboard. lets say u have a cat that makes wonderful miaoos. u record him, program it (a bit techy so I'll skip the tech stuff) and u r now able to play it as midi and write a tune with the sound. a good sampler will give u 8+ channels of midi.

Wierd thig I saw today, a man with his EMU walking in the park, than a woman with an Akai came too, and their samplers started to play together! :D
Back to topic: :) Can you put different samples on different channels, or you must make one sample for each channel? I mean can you make like drum channels or you have to use a seprate channel for kick drums, hi-hats, etc? |

A sample per channel is hardly an accurate description, Guy... First of all, are we talking about channels as in midi channels, or channels as in polyphony? The midi channels can play as many notes as you wish. If your sampler supports 128 polyphony, you can actually play 128 DIFFERENT samples (or the same sample 128 times at once) on the same midi channel. If the issue is output channels, then it depends on the way you setup your multi program. Samplers are VERY flexible. |

absolutly right. I meant midi channels offcourse. u can load poliphony as much as you want (128 max) but if u want to play with the tone - its the whole keyboard per sound.

And, ofcourse, you can assign different sample to every key on the keyboard. |
