When cleaning up, and going round my sample libary is there a way of doing this without either having to load things into media player?
Also something which allows for some file management would be cool, deleting moving etc.
Any ideas? |

hi
for a sophisticated archive manager I'd suggest you something like freecommander
http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/freeCommander-a-Screenshot-11868.html
that will enable you to do things quicker.
while using media player for a quick listening purpose tool, I'd suggest you to dump windows media player from the start it takes ages to start and simply sucks. You could go for a very old media player like winamp 2, it starts up in an instant or a tool called foobar... both you'll find googling the names. I'd suggest you a dedicated sample editor program like wavelab/soundforge/cooledit or something comparable.
Now how to set file types so they automatically open with a previously chosen program (just in case you don't know it). Open a windows explorer via right mouse button on start. Browse to a folder that contains your samples (eg: *.wav) right click a wave file and choose open with. Now browse your program folder until you got the executable of the program you want to open wav files and set the flag "always use the selected..."
hope that helps. |

another neat thing that will let you find stuff quicker in your sample library/vst folders (like patches and access to different folders in a breeze) is a tool called folder express. (google it)
It enables you to quick access folders via right mouse button and on most installation routines. Press right mouse button on the close icon on the upper right and add your favourite folders. Quick access them from now on. This did speed up my work flow by a huge degree. |
