Sample Management Software

Does anyone know of any any software solely for the task of looking after, rating and organising your samples library?

All my samples are extremely well organised into folders. But they are copied from their original CDs where there was no organisation - if I were to lose my sample hard drive, I would have to copy back all the files from their original discs and then re-organise them again!

Some sort of save feature on a management program that could re-order your files back into the folders you created would be amazing.

The reason I'm thinking about this is because I note that there is STILL no audio preview in Windows 7, and going through samples takes FOREVER!

The dilemma is that while Adobe Audition/soundforge has a quick autoplay preview whilst browsing, you don't have the functionality of Windows Explorer.

If I use explorer, then any audio app I use to play a sample takes a minuscule amount of time to get ready to play the next file - unacceptable- we all know if the sound is 'right' or not straight away, pressing down, down, down, down as you move through the list should br fast.

Throw in a star rating system and maybe a basic 'preview in track' function that could play the sample in time with the song by clicking in a matrix representing beat divisions!

Anyway, I think I've talked enough.

If anybody knows of anything - post it!! Otherwise, I think I might try and raise some money to have this application coded, anyone interested?           -------------- Studio Engineer --------------

If you listen to samples through your daw in a sampler for example you can go quick right? Or do you really want to listen to them without using a daw/ sampler?

Cant help you with any software i'm afraid.

I buy, download and record my own samples all the time. Even when I watch TV, I have half my mind wondering if what is being said would fit into a song.
Then I can pause, rewind and rip it.

I can preview audio in a sampler or the sequencer itself (Cubase imporrt audio wndow has an autoplay feature

But the point of a standalone program is for organisation on the hard drive - having the correct sets of folders and subfolders, naming convention, a rating system. The point is about management, not just listening to them quickly.           -------------- Studio Engineer --------------

I think there's no such application... yet.

To avoid more work, the best thing is to backup your samples folders periodically.
Burn it into DVDs or copy into an external hardrive.
I use Norton Ghost, to create an image from my HDD partitions.
