Is there some way to see the frequency spectrum of samples while I'm scrolling through them? It would save the hassle of loading samples individually into sequencer and then checking the spectrum.
would help me with layering samples.
Im using Logic 8. Some sampler/wave editor got such a function?
thanks in advance |

It might not be the most useful of features but i thought it could have helped me with layering kick drums for example and finding frequencies that are more suitable for big PA's as I have just headphones, cant afford proper monitors yet. Just wondering as a beginning producer if ye pro's use that sort of stuff. |

I use spectrum analyzers all the time. I think they are incredibly important to the production process.
However.
I don't think that they are particularly useful for what you are suggesting in terms of kick drum auditioning.
It isn't just as simple as what frequencies a component of a kick contains - its how those frequencies interact with everything else in the mix, and I don't think a visual representation of the kick alone can tell you that with anything other then minimal accuracy. You night be able to make a guess as to how it will interact, but guessing is not good for your mix
I don't have proper monitors - just crappy little hifi speakers... and for years I worked exclusively on headphones. I don't think its the issue people make out it is, if you know your system.

I disagree. Spectrum analyzers a great tool to understand your mix. Use your ears is fine, but when you want nuances, the spectrum analyzer will give you more of them.
In cubase what you could do is run your samples through a sampler, set a spectrum analyzer on the samplers mixer channel adn then scroll through samples.
I think what you meant is a histogram of the frequencys. i dont know of any of those. anyone else?
