Sample CD/DVD content.

Aside from rolling my own, I also have a fair few sample CDs - some good, and some really bad (despite descriptions that would have you believe it was something extraordinary!)

So, I've decided the time has come and I'm now creating my own to see if I can do any better, and I'd like to solicit the opinions of producers here as to what actually works for them, or not, in using 3rd party samples.

For instance, I like drum loops that instantly inspire me to create a whole track just from the drum/perc loops.

I presume I'm not alone in that, but do you prefer drum loops that are deconstructed into individual sounds as well as the finished composite loop? (for me I prefer to have the option).

Do you think a good sample CD sould come in Acidized WAVs and REX2 for the drums, and embedded with the root key for instrument loops? Personally I found it irritating to have to edit the silence from the end of a loop from a sample CD or to have to convert from audio to WAV - thankfully not some common now.

Whilst lots of VSTi's and hardware synths come stacked with FX, creating a track with stereo loops can be problematic at mixdown time.

Do you find it better to work with mono and generally uneffected samples, in terms of tempo delays and big wide verbs, or do you normally prefer to have the full stereo versions?

I'm at the stage where I try and get the synth lines sounding as good as possible in mono, rather than with impressive stereo FX.

Like everyone else, I'm always on the lookout for new (and useable!) kicks, hats, and perc, and FX.

My plan would be to include the individual hits used in contructing loops, plus any other good sounds that I think would be useable and/or interesting.

Do you think that including the midi files together with the Kontakt banks mapped out for the samples used in the loops would be a useful thing to have in addition to single hits?

Which categories of sound/loops deserve greater attention than on most commercially available sample CDs/DVDs?

Are there any sounds that we could all do without?!

Do you find it useful to have the same bass loop, for example, in several different pitches - to me this is less relevant now as it's so easy to move the pitch anyway.

What tempo ranges do you think are the most useful?

For longer filter sweeps, over how many bars do would think it useful?

Thanks for any input.
