This crazy party, this mystical gathering, this mad funfair was the strongest experience of my life so far. The 4 day party was to change me in ways that I never imagined possible. It blew my mind. It was friggin unbelievable. Today even my smile feels different, like it will never fade, as if it was carved on my face, a bit like joker's in Batman. Here is what happened...

The weather was cloudy but it wasn't raining, so I packed my rucksack and set off for Lavrio on my bike, while my girlfriend was hitching a ride with her mum (we had 2 much to carry on the motorcycle.)
Arriving at Lavrio, we joined the happy and colorfull crowd only to discover that the coast guard and the police were searching everyone who looked different and making several arrests...
Later we heard that about 25 ppl got arrested, and that was only at Lavrio port. I witnessed a policeman and a coast-guard officer wrestle a poor guy onto the ground. I was horrified. I can't stand violence, and those ppl were just being brutal. I shouted at them, but they payed no attention...
We had with us some marijuana, and we were also scared that the dog would smell it, but finally we got on the boat safe an sound.
The sea gave us quite a wild ride, and by the end my stomach felt like havin been punched several times by Mike Tyson.
We were very carefull on the boat since we heard that there undercover police officers were operating on it, lookin for more drugs.
And then we stopped at Limnos. And the nightmare started all over again. I was sleeping at the time when the police stormed the boat. They pointed at several ppl and dragged them off the boat. Apparently somebody had stolen some sunglasses that were on show on the boat and the captain had alerted the police. One of my friends got arrested, and he was carrying quite a lot of hash with him, what a bummer!!! Ruined his day, ruined his party, blemished his criminal record, fuckin unjust conservative human laws. And then the ppl started booing the police making them even angrier. So, while they were leaving, they stopped the boat and jumped in again. They took the dog to the garage to sniff all the cars, and they stayed with us till Samothraki.
Finally we arrived but it was only when I got out of the port that I felt safe. The law has to change ppl, soon this has to change!
Later I found out that the news nicknamed our boat "the boat of shame". More likely "the operation of shame" by the police.
What a terrible trip...
But now we were there! And off I set on my own to check that there were no more police in the entrance, while my gf was takin the "free" bus ride that the SDF ppl had promised, only to find out that the driver was charging 2 euros on arrival at the camping!!!
Shame, shame, shame! Some ppl refused to pay and nothing came upon them, so I rode back to the port and told everyone NOT to pay, cause some ppl didn't, and anyway the flyer was stating FREE bus ride to the camping AND BACK!
In the entrance we didn't have to wait 4 long b4 our tickets were taken from us (shit, I wanted to keep the bloody thing), and blue braceletes were snapped on our wrists.
We set our tent exactly behind the progressive stage and went for a swim. The sea was full of seaweed and rocks, and you had to swim quite far in order to get into clear water, but it was refreshing nonetheless. The camping was huuuge, the distances unbelievable and the ppl kept coming. We had 2 days for the party to start, so we set on exploring the camp. So many ppl from so many countries, quite a lot of japanese, lots of israelis, italians, british, etc.
The mini market was always cramped, long cues of ppl in front of it, so we almost never visited it. The food that existed on the camp was either chicken with pasta, handmade cheese sandwiches from the israeli ppl (3 euros a piece? ahahahha), miso soup from the japanese (4 euros very well spent!), and more. Ppl also served muesli for brekkie, and the chai-shops were offering super sweet yummie cinammon tea with milk for 1.5 euro and chocolate pancakes for 2. Excellent! You could also eat a sandwich with a pork chop in it for 2 euros... Protein man, gimme da protein! ;-)
As the days passed, the camping got filled to the brim. Ppl were even camping inside the river-beds (quite stupid if u ask me). The weather was excellent, security ppl were everywhere but never really harassed us. Everybody was smokin chillums and joints in front of the security ppl and nothing happened! Excellent!!!
We found out who the dealers were and we stocked up on psychedelics, heehee, the funny thing was that long b4 we started eatin anything we were already tripping our heads off!!! Maybe it was the spectacular setpoint for the party, maybe the avical decorations, maybe the happy ppl, the full moon, the vibes, the energy, say anything you like... I was feeling ecstatic!
And then, the music started. The woofers blew our minds clean off, and the sound was the crisper and beefier example I had ever listened to. My ears were screaming with happiness! The sound mechanic was from Kox Box, and it looks like he knew VERY WELL what he was doing!
In the four days that followed we covered endless miles travelling from the main stage to the progressive one, more miles to eat, wash, pooh, find friends and ofcourse DANCE! We were dancing 12-13 hours non stop every day at the party, then sleep some, relax some, listen to the music while we were dozin off, then get up, go dance some more.
Let me give you some hints about the main stage. Other than the avical decorations, the laser show by El Geko was something to marvel at. Waves of green light were surrounding us, creating the most stunning visual effects, sometimes it felt like I was participating in a star wars movie, others like I was diving under green waters, then climbing on the stairway to heaven...
The crowd was as colorfull as it gets. Japanese females with heavy winter boots on their feet, ppl with surgical operations on their ears in order to resemble vampires, others who looked like elves and lepricorns, elderly ppl who danced like lunatics, rastafari, a guy with a chinese peasant hat, a black guy with a tribal spear who looked like shaka zulu, freaks, and more conservative ppl, everybody dancing into a frenzy!
And there were more to the show! Incredible fireworks, some really good fire jugglers, people on stilts, clowns (not really, I'm only joking, heehee) and OFCOURSE the fire-engine with the firefighters on it spraying us with water during the hot hours of the day!
I'm getting goosebumps only by bringing the memories back on...

Samothraki - the day after / part 2

And the music ROCKED (pardon the expression)!!!
You should have been there when son kite took an electric violin out and starting exploding their songs to smithereens, only to reconstruct them again into what I then considered to be the howlings of the hounds of hell!!!
You should experience son kite live, they sound NOTHING like their albums, these guys push the boundaries of music, playing with your mind!
Ticon was also great, I loved element who really tripped my brain, so many musicians to remember, I m afraid I will forget to mention some...
Tristan was unbelievable, really happy guy, excellent sound, he was communicating with the crowd so much. At the end, some woofers got blown away at the main stage, but soon the problem was restored.
But the djs who really made the difference were Logic Bomb. Un-fuckin-belieavable!
Also Mark Allen (and when he played as quirk) was simply divine, Etnica and Max L played superb, one of the surprises for me was Eduardo. Good set!
I didn't like the way dino psaras played, he was goin up and down in quality and really pissed me off! Shame, cause I'd heard him in city+ and he was really good then.
Some of the djs played in different times than what had been announced, and when I went to see whizzy noise, someone else was playin (who was it really?).
Generally though, the program was reliable and all the djs played excellent.
Somebody broke into 2 of our friends tents and stole a mobile phone. Generally we carried on us all that was valuable.
I was tripping for 10 days constantly, with or without substances, and the ecstasy was tangible. Overall the organisers did an excellent job and they deserve congratulations! Well done SDF team!
The trip back to Athens was a nightmare, cause all the tickets to Lavrio port were sold out till the 5th of September, and so we travelled to Alexandroupolis, and then NEXT DAY (there were no seats u c) by train. Twenty some hours l8r we were in the capital. The motorcycle followed. I picked it up only today from the train station in Athens. Our trains made me feel like I was in a 3d world country...

For 10 days I felt I was starring in a film about a wild party, with wild ppl, pushing my limits, trying to find out what REALLY matters in this life.
And, oh-oh, I think I have come up with some ideas...

First of all, the importance of music! Who can explain to me why the hell music soothes the soul so much and helps us become ecstatic? Why in the name of 1000 undiscovered Gods do we love to dance? Moving with the rhythm, twisting and shaking, how come it carries all that importance within us?
I remember when I was a young boy at high school, when I was shy and would NEVER dance, trying to avoid parties in order NOT to dance... Unhappy days those, heehee...
And now, nobody has to make me, I chase a good party, trying to be a part of it, trying to become a piece in the bigger happiness puzzle. A little molecule happily moving along, among thousands of other happy molecules, jumpin, jumpin around, playing, being happy, laughing. Look at me, I'm flying!!!

Second is the need that humans have to explain their world, to find out the true values, the reason of our existance, and what should REALLY matter in this life. Laughing, a sense of humour, feeling happy, so important these 3, they give you all the strength you will need, even in your darkest hour... Creativity, music, dancing, opening up, breaking the boundaries that we, and others, have set upon ourselves, COMMUNICATING with others, sharing and feeling relaxed, thinking and decoding the signs, listening, trying to UNDERSTAND, in the end playing like kids do.

People say that we ravers "burn" ourselves, drugs fuck us up (although the term drugs is wrong, the right one is psychoactives, psychedelic substances, food for the soul and mind). Ppl who criticise our way of life have built their lives with clear borders to what is acceptable and what is not, trying to feel secure and to simplify the complexity of everyday life. I say fear and conservatism was never a good advisary. Life is wild, dive in it head on, feel, expand your private universe, laugh till your eyes well up with tears. Ppl will call you stupid, say you lost your mind, but the truth is NOT out there. It's INSIDE. Just search harder!

Finalising this review (do I hear sighs of relief, heehee), let me talk the funny chaos gospel.

Having a sense of humour, understanding and ACCEPTING the situation are the keys to a happy life.
The situation is one and only. CHAOS! Accept it, laugh at yourself, dance, lead a happy life, respect the values that trully matter! Party on people, and while you are at it, elevate yourselves to a higher plane!
          I dance, therefore I am.
