I don't understand what all this fuss is about.
Things are quite simple.
In the beginning everyone was asking about who the promoters are and making comments about it all the time. I also wanted to know and all I had to do was wait and see. And so I did, and I found out who the promoters are in the end. So this one got sorted.
Now it's the police. What is it so hard to understand people? We all know what is going on with the police in Greece and what has happened to the previous Samothraki festivals because of the police.
It's very simple, don't carry anything with you and you won't have any problems. You can't have everything! Carrying drugs and not having a hussle from the police is not an option in Greece. At the end of the day the police are only doing their job. Maybe more than what they're supposed to, but still, can you or me or anyone else in here change this? I don't think so...
If you can understand that then the choice is very simple for everyone.
Personally I think that this festival may turn out to be really good, although I don't want to go and I will not go for my reasons, one of them being the police actually, but this is my choice. This doesn't mean that I bitch about it all the time in here.
I made my choice of festival for this year, I went there, I had a fantastic time and that's the end of the story.
I wish all the best for this festival and to the promoters of the festival. At the end of the day you are making an effort to do something nice and I respect that. I hope that the police problems won't be so much as the previous years, and I hope everyone that goes there will have a fantastic time!
So stop being so negative people. Just make your choice and get on with it.

oh no, what you say is totally unfair, mate !
I don't think (it's my opinion) there ever was a greek person who didn't adore Samothraki's natural beauty and landscape and calmness and general feeling. And tourists from worldwide have always appreciated this corner of the earth for its magic.
But party animals are a different kind of thing. You may say that they have abused rules and guidelines of the events that have happened and some of them might do it again and forever, but this has nothing to do with respect to the island.
You know, every greek island that has never been the hyper touristic resort type over the years, has come to suffer a bit from a sudden flow of visitors that went there due to happenings or promotional advertising from touristic agencies etc.
Well it cuts both ways....and times are difficult for residents of remote or under-developped islands. I sense that if Samothraki's ppl really wished to leave things as it has been for so many years before, they would have never given any permission for any happening, especially now that they already have had the experience of what a festival means.
Anyone who disrespects Samothraki the way you put it, would do the same thing at anyplace anytime. Be aware of the signs of the times. |

ok polycore,the first part sounded nice,but i m not only talking bout da "spiritual" n stuff beauty of samothra,i ve been to da first fest and i m talking bout ppl throwing ciggies in da waterfalls.and that means disprespect to the island.
On the other hand,since there r already so many islands that have been "ruined"by tourists,y doesn't da party take place in one of these islands,so da "unspoilt"islands like samothraki remain unspoilt?And that's my point xactly,cause since ppl can't really keep promises and can't respect da island the way it should b respected,they can try an island such as paros or rhodes that have already too many tourists and what s spoilt there has already been spoilt.Plus i don't think many ppl r aware of the island's history n stuff....i didn't c many party ppl visiting the holy temple of the gread gods in paleopoli for example...so,since there's not that much of a "spiritual" bond between the party thing and samothraki,i don't c any particular reason y the party has to take place in samothra...there r many other nice places ppl can have their parties.Y SAMOTHRAKI? |

The garbage disposal system this year will work out, one way or another.
What beat_kiddo says is very important. Rare bird species have died cause of cigaretes in the natural water pools. The birds think that it's a kind of food, flowing on the water...
Realy, ppl should visit the temple of the great gods. It is a unique, breath cutting, ancient monument.
the natural energy field on mount fegari, is the second bigest after elefsina in Greece. This is a magnet for thousands of ppl, including the organisers of this gathering ( this answer the question "Y SAMOTHRAKI" ) We realy hope that this gathering will be more than just a "party".
No mushroom deco, no bacdrops, no "panigiri" style markets, no "kantines" inside. Three stages with atmospheric decorations and lights, and the nature all around us.
From monday and on watch out for the second edition flyers. They include ferry schedules.
Try and be on the island at least one week before the event, in order to avoid the crowds. The camping will be evacuated thursday 25 august in the morning. The instalations have started 4 days ago.
Pls read the guidelines and try to respect the unique nature of samothraki. The organisers will take advantage of the garbage deposit and they will use it to acomplish this task.
More updates and info, soon on the website.

i'd like to ask the promoters when can the people who'll attend the event, settle in the camping. i was thinking of going there on 24th of August but the organizers now say that they're gonna evacuate the camping on 25 August.
i don't have additional money for renting a room and i would really like to know when it's ok to settle in the municipality's camping for the event.

You can come and camp whenever you like. The camping will be evacuated anyway on the 25th of august and after the ticket check, you will get your arm bands and you will re enter. You can leave your tent at the spot though. You will just have to take all of your valuable stuff with you while evacuating.

Very funny...
I've met narrow-minded people without taking ANY drugs and also narrow-minded people that are full on drugs! so, this is irrelevant as every individual is free to choose what substanses they wanna consume, if any! [among drugs i include alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine too...]
