Saiko-Pod - Phutures and Options (Solstice - May 2002)
1.Two Dots
2.Silent Running
3.Phutures
4.Options
5.Wednesday
6.Groove Moderator
7.Magnetic Force
8.Apollo
9.Going Down in Chinatown
10.Tron

Well, it finally arrived yesterday night. And let me just say, I was so blown away by it! Definitly the best soundwork I've ever seen in an album. This was mastered with Pro Tools, there's no sound quality that comes close in today's psy trance.
It is a masterpiece: efortlessly blending smart dancefloor bombs with trippy downbeat, the danish bombs leave nothing to chance, and bring together one hell of a disc.
It all starts with the killer nightish Two Dots, and I just love the "Cycles are boring, spirals are fun' sample, the killer driving bass, and the highly psychedelic sound games. Then up is my all-time favorite Silent Running, and yes I desperatly wanna run to the nearest dancefloor and just tear my knees apart because of the best-ever driving bass, awesome kick and overall perfection in the track story. Then Phutures is up, and is not in the same league as the previous two, but still very smart piece, listen closely, it will move some neuron transmitters around. Then we calm down a little with Options and this is another trippy psychedelic piece, slower at 128 but still psy sound games abound. Then back up, and Groove Moderator just brings another karahana dancing session, as the name says, groovy as hell. And we move on to the classic "Light it up George!" Magnetic Force, with a little Logic Bomb twist, another killer dancefloor piece, perfect from beginning to end, nothing left to say: killer break and build-up work, controls the pace and tempo before exploding right in your face. Apollo is next, faster up, followed by Going Down in Chinatown, which brings it definitly down in a chill mood, before the final karahana courtesy of Tron, a more morningish bomb with the now-typical driving bass and great melodic lines.
My early favorite for album of the year, best money I spent in 2002. Franke and Ian Ion deserve full round of applause for this.
Prepare yourselfs to see and take part in this music wreaking havoc in dancefloors worldwide.
Boom!

Since these guys change their style into pure full on trance they really do rock the place.
Saikopod is one of my favorite acts and Tron is one of the best tracks around, those japanese samples are awesome.
I cant wait to listen to this album and i will try to review it as soon as possible           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

nice review luiz
i shall definitely be checking this out as soon as i can. koxbox / psychopod / saiko-pod have always been big favourites of mine.. and this sounds like it will be no exception.

i like the phutures and options financial pun as well. is it explained further anywhere why they chose to call it this ? (probably not but i just wondered)           >>love will tear us apart...<<

Hey Tom, no explanation as to why they chose the name. I love the financial pun too, being a finance buff myself.
Maybe they wanted to hedge themselves, with an album that goes through most styles           the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist....

this one's a real disappointment to me. the sound quality is top-of-the-line, but the music is nowhere near what frank and ion used to do and what they are capable of doing--more of an accessible club project than a truly psychedelic album. two dots, silent running, groove moderator, magnetic force, and tron are released and old, and futures and options and wednesday sound like filler-material between the bigger tracks. (i like the chinatown track though.) some of this sounds like material borrowed from their live sets, as you can hear pieces of different tracks in different songs (for example, two dots has plenty of major problem in australia in there, plus others). dragon tales, forever after, and the great unknown are three of the greatest trance releases ever, but this one plays it very safe. good for the floor of course, but not good for the mind like the good old days of KoxBox. waiting for Dragon Tales 2....

i agree.

after a 1st listen, i would say it's a pretty average CD.
The best tracks are the low-tempo ones and the rest is pretty boring to be honest.

not psychdedlic enough like koxbox, and not full-on enough to really work in a party

Dunno, I was expecting more KoxBox psycho weirdness but got an album that is a tad 2 clubby for my liking...
In the same style, the Zen Lemonade album blows this away imo...

6/10

There's a reason why Saiko Pod is Saiko Pod & KoxBox Is KoxBox......
If things were the same there would be no use of difeferent names.....
Therefore, different name, different style...
And its always good to see changes....
ARE YOU HERE FOR THE KNNOBBIN' ?!

It's a great album. The music is great. Yes, despite what is said here, it works EXCELLENTLY on the dancefloor, it's great to listen at home. Very psychedelic with a unique sound and style.

A lot of people expected another Dragon Tales or Headlines, but if you find something you didn't expect it doesn't mean it's bad. With all due respect, Tron is the best full-on track of the year as far as I'm concerned.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Got down to listen to this one and write my review.
Well all has been said. killer sound, mediup musical ideas. nothing to kill for and their previous work was much better and more inspired. 3+           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.
