Safi Connection - Figga Nigga -=- Spliff Music:.

Here comes the second album from Mishel Bitton aka Safi Connection.
With a stylish cover (

http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?spc1cd003_b.jpg:CDs/spc/spc1cd003.html:; ) at

firsat sight what called my attention was the name of the release: Figga Nigga... What the

hell does this means?

Just a little comment about Spliff Music: They're releasing great, different music!

Chemical Drive, Beat Hackers and Safi Connection, among others... keep it up.

Track List:

1 - Figga Nigga
2 - Experimental Dose
3 - Fullon String
4 - Tarazan and JD-J
5 - Future (Safi's rmx)
6 - Laoolaoo
7 - Vainish
8 - Hentay
9 - Solaric Seeds

Weird track names... I'm expecting weird music here...
Let's see it track by track:

1 - Figga Nigga --> Starts very weird with water noises and distorted voices... I think I

can hear the sample: "son of a bitch" in a very distorted voice... After the first minute

of weird sounds there comes the kick, the bass (unusual bass) and a guitar (not cheese at

first). Weird samples at the middle: "Come on, yep, alright, nothing, you said yes? Yes!

Yes? Yes! Yes? Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!..." Weird breaks and build ups... Different guitar

breaks, phone ringing, and a crazy build up in the last party of this track. Nice full on

track, the album started in a good way.

2 - Experimental Dose --> Uhmm, this track has a nice melody and bassline. Also it has some

kind of guitar noises (maybe synths) and is more catchy than the first track, but not

cheesy at all. These guys discovered one of the craziest ways to make a melody... And Big

Surprise: This track has the same sample of Vibe Tribe - Albert Balbert. "This very small

dose, the first dose of my experiments, was very very strong..." I guess that's from where

this track got its name... Nice track.

3 - Fullon String --> This track starts and build up slowly, but around 2'40 it gets loose

in a very full on way... At 3'20 there's a major break and the track comes back with a

different bassline, but the same melody. Weird track... But not my style.

4 - Tarazan and JD-J --> This track have a pounding bassline, some samples I can't

understand and a melody that's not my style. Major break with sample around: 5'10... Can

anyone tell me what is said in this sample? The track comes back with the same basslines...

5 - Future (Safis rmx) --> Well, another remix from Analog Pussy - Future. I think there

are more than 10 remixes from this track... What can I say else than: "We are the world...

We are the Future..."

6 - Laoolaoo --> I liked this track, but I don't know how to describe it. Maybe Wicked is

the best word here. After the big break in the middle things get weirdier...

7 - Vainish --> hehehe... As weird as it may seems this track is one of my favorites

here... The name "Vainish" is because it contains the melody from the BIG mainstream hit:

Culture Beat - Mr. Vain. Nice track, I like the effects... "He was 4 years old when he

first took the magic mushroom". And another sample I can't understand... I liked the way they twisted the track... really nice.

8 - Hentay --> This track starts with a nice and different basslines, and also a sample

about LSD. Something about "Small doses of LSD of the course of several weeks..."But I

can't understand it. Need help here. The music is nice, but again not my style...

9 - Solaric Seeds --> begining like a chill out track, and with different basslines, this

track is another candidate to my favorite. I liked it, because it seems to be less weird...

heheheh

I liked this release, but it's not my favorite style. For sure it is good to hear this

stuff at dancefloors, because there's no formula here.
Lot's of tracks have a big break around the middle. Also some weird, aparently disconected

noises...
Ok, nice release, but there's almost 15 minutes left in the CD! That means this release

could have two more tracks! Come on... You could give us a little more...

Final Score: 7.5/10.0
Favorites: 2! & 7!

just got the album today, only listened to the first 4 songs but DAMNNNN!!!! this is amazing stuff you're coming our with here Mishel- I am more than surprised by your sounds, I've always been a fan but this album kills it all. perhaps one of the most inspired and creative albums of the year. Now here's a guy that's changed his magic formula to bring us brand new sounds to the ears... Definitely one of the top 5 albums of the year, if not the best. I've already caught myself screaming YES at the top of my lungs a couple of times and it looks like it will only get better.... Fuckin' great album there. only advice i have to give- people you need to go out there and BUY this album.

Oh no, another innovative album?? I mean, ripping off Culture Beat's Mr. Vain doesn't sound very innovative to me. Just plain annoying. Will have a listen to this though, maybe I'll like the other tracks??           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Acidhive, I think you should listen first and criticize later.
This album is not the best of the year for me, but for sure is innovative, different and weird . It does not deserve your "before hearing" bashing comments.

hells yeah, thanx, finally someone else who understands how good this guy is!!!

Seriously, it's a great album with krazy breaks and nice traveling melodies that take you from one place and lead you to a completely different world. I didn't think the cd would be that good but I just listened to it like 6 times in 3 days and I'm still impressed. Great morning stuff.

A very impressive album. Lots O' breaks and beat slices everywhere. The melodies are pretty weird.

Promotional Thread:

Safi is Mishel Bitton, from Tel Aviv. After a growing success of one of the most wanted Israeli live act, here comes a psy full on killer dance floor album, with variety of sounds, styles and moods, there is a few punk metal guitars and psychotics breaks you gone find on 'Figga Nigga', even some emotional melodies, and a blasting remix for Analog Pussy 'Future', this track is a must listen by all genres. As usual, it’s unlike any other full on - dance floor album you gone see this year. After a continuous listening I would say:’ don’t listen to it unless you gone party'.

Track List:

1 – Figga Nigga
2 – Experimental Dose
3 – Fullon String
4 – Tarazan and JD-J
5 – Future (Safi Remix)
6 – Laoolaoo
7 – Vainish
8 – Hentay
9 – Solaric Seeds

Review:

Here we are…with the second album from Mishel Bitton aka Safi Connection, untitled “Figga Nigga”…more good music released by Spliff…

Figga Nigga starts the album with some break beats and some kind of a distorted voice, after 1m20s we can hear a guitar riff with psychedelic sounds backyards that goes together till the end of the music…at 2m30s we can hear some samples, always full of psychedelic sounds backyards…

Experimental dose has a nice groovy bass, has some guitar sounds too and has one of the most psychedelic melodies I have ever seen! It’s a bit less “aggressive-psychedelic” then track 1 but not to much…

Fullon String starts with a guitar riff, then appears a powerful bass line and after this we are “present” by a deep melody, a bit to repetitive because it’s on all music, but good…at 3m39s the bass line changes a little but it’s still powerful…and the melody with the new bass and the guitar sounds stays together till the end of the track.

Tarazan and JD-J is the brightest sound of this album, bright in the meaning of clarity, luminous…I think that it’s a good track to finish a night-to-morning Dj set, it going certainly to do smiles at people’s faces it have some kind of sound that starts with a break beat and after it reminds some video-game…nice one

Future, original by Analog Pussy and here remixed by Safi Connection, it’s a unnecessarily track for me because at a month ago have been released by AP Records a cd with 9 remixes of the track, I’m starting to get bored when I listen the sample…

Laoolaoo is another “pacific” track; it has some nice and quiet melodies, deep voices that can be from the bottom of the tunnel…but always with the psychedelic feeling of Safi Connection music…

Vainish presents again some quiet and bright melodies, with a potent kick bass…it has too some kind of machine sounds, it makes me think in a Coldcut track…the track has a sample that says ”He was 4 years old when he first took the magic mushroom", what a lucky guy…:) it’s another good sound for day time.

Hentay is a bit different from the last two tracks…it has too a power and groovy bass line, the normal “psychedeliquish” of the album but instead of bright melodies, this track presents us some very hypnotic sounds and melodies that gives to the track the chance to be a great night hit

Solaric Seeds it’s a great surprise, when it starts we think “the last is off course a chill out track” but at 39s we see that we are wrong...like all the tracks on this album, it has much psychedelic sounds, of all type, some bright melodies, I think it has been a good purpose for the last track…

I don’t know if I have to give a style to this album what should I do…I think it was something like experimental, or creative, I don’t know…sincerely it’s not my kind of trance, but I see a lot of good work here and I’m certainly that for many people it can be the greatest album of 2004…keep on releasing Spliff, I think that you are on the good way

7/10

There is only one word to describe this album: WEIRDNESS!! But I love it!! I thoroughly enjoyed this mismatched, wierd and spooky, yet funky and bouncy album.

My favs (even though I love the whole album): 3, 6, 7!!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears

I really did not find anything special about this album.
It felt bouncy but poor. Just never took off IMO.

I was disappointed.           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

Yes its definitely a wierd album....with tonnes of unexpected surprises....personally i only liked Future with all the other tracks being pretty good but with nothing truly exceptional.
Would give it a 7.
          Never hold it in.
