or you could just spend that money on gear and books and learn everyting yourself. (volunteer too)
i know a lot of people that paid big bucks for these sound schools and theyre jobless or driving truck for 7 bucks an hour - and wishing theyve never wasted their time and money.
at least with gear - youll have something to show for it in a year. |

If you want it for a job...rethink...
if you want it for the knowledge...its a good
option to get experiance and learn alot in a relatively short time. |

I went to SAE in London 95.
All in all it was not useless, but a lot of theory and tape cutting.
If you have the motivation and character you be much better of using the money to take time to sit and learn your self with some books and gear.
The teachers was not that great, and much what you will spend your time with is listening to them quoting what they read in a book the evening before it feels like.
Of course it can be hard to get you hands of a neve or ssl console to learn how to use beast like that otherwise, but that is not the most important thing to know today, especially if you are primarily making trance.
For me the choice was made very easy thanks to that the swedish government help out with the finance, but if it was not for that I doubt I would have taken the money from my own pocket.
But as far as sound engineering schools go I guess they are good, and the London branch have undergone some major improvements since I went from what I heared.
Otherwise Alchemy is another UK based school which I heard very good things about that can be worth looking in to. The should give more time for hands on experience.

for me it was also not that great as i expected, but i think if you dont know much about soundcreating and processing and are too lazy to learn them your self, its a very helpful crash course - because you engage with much much equipment, software and theory, and if you pay that price you will learn quick
in the other hand you can get a lot of equipment for this money and you can concentrate on this gear, @ sae a lot of the equipment is too expensive to buy oneself
he he for me it was a quite difficult decision to went to this school, but after it i didnt regret it
you can attend sae every month at the "open day"
there you can ask them questions and see the studio rooms

from the replys here i can understand that it's not the expirience people here thought so at first and after all it's better to spend the money on gear (like that one actualy... ) , but after all is'nt it too hard to learn such complex metirial myself?

you can of course learn it yourself...
but, at least in sae amsterdam, there were
some great teachers wich went into the depth and details of alot of things wich they gained through experiance and work with proffessionals on the field, so you can start
working and learinning by yourself, but, a course
gives you also indepth view, of that
isnt that easy to find or understand properly...if you only make trance, i say buy
a nice synth a good computer and a sound card, download shit loads of stuff and info from the internet and ask stuff in forums...
if you see you nead more experiance and knowledge wize, then concider a course. |

you can always follow the electronic music producing course...
not too many unusefull theories, but an accurate course on how to use your home studio optimal
price is much lower (holland)
1800 euro's for 6 months |

Hi ,
i went to SAE in Paris 97 , i think that i was to young 18 or not enough experience to do it ... you must
know music sofla , and good Musci base !! after i m sure that you can learn yourself but you can't have all materials to apply it ... now i m happy to have done it !
