We all have the technology @ home. Why is't that we don't see any psy releases in these formats yet? HDCDs even work @ normal cd players. And if you've got a dvd player @ home it'll most likely play SACDs, just like your computer!

HDCD? High Definition Compatible Digital. HDCD-encoded CDs sound better because they are encoded with 20 bits of real musical information, as compared with 16 bits for all other CDs. HDCD overcomes the limitation of the 16-bit CD format by using a sophisticated system to encode the additional 4 bits onto the CD while remaining completely compatible with the existing CD format. HDCD provides more dynamic range, a more focused 3-D soundstage, and extremely natural vocal and musical timbre. With HDCD, you get the body, depth, and emotion of the original performance not a flat, digital imitation.

SACD? Super Audio Compact Disk. - Superb sound quality, the same as what you hear in the recording studio.
- A disc that can store 4x the data of a CD, which allows space for a 2-channel stereo as well as a separate 5.1 surround mix.
- Super high resolution sound quality through a new recording technology: DSD
- The world’s most secure digital audio carrier: protected against industrial piracy. Works as regular cd in normal cd players.

And now, why the hell not? Sounds to me like they could add something to the home listening experience.

Labels wouldn't be suffering so much from the piracy problem if they hadn't abdicated responsibility for innovation. I expected a few more of those synched DVDs to emerge after Syncosect but so far, no luck. Isn't anyone out there pushing some boundaries? Even the leading labels seem to be mainly releasing plain old CDs with few advances in conceptualization (Son Kite a notable, though much delayed, exception)...

HDCD
Requires expensive hardware that not all mastering studios have. According to Apogees claims you get 20bit performance out of a CD using their dithering anyway.
Probaly the HDCD goes a step further, but still most labels probably find it hard to justify the massive cost of having a mastering studio equipped with HDCD equipment working for them. Especially since very few listeners will play the CD's back on players with HDCD decoders.

SACD
Probably the future, when enough consumers use players that supports the format.
What I understand you can make CD's that play back on regular players as wéll, so I thats something talking for it being more widespread quickly.
Secure is bad according to the consumers though. Sony just had to give up on their copyright protection system on regular CD's when sales went down due to it.

Maybe in the end we will see a DVD audio release first instead?
It's already the most widespead fromat when it comes to player supporting it.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

I don't have a DVD player at home
Maybe I would get one if trance would be released in multichannel DVD audio though.

Also I don't know how big percentage of the players actually supports it, only that not all does it.
