combination of them all ^^
a good synth patch in the first place, then add the stuff you want/you need.
every sequencer has a good set of delay/distortion/reverb etc. nowadays...
you just have to learn what you need to get the sound you want...maybe not the answer you wanted to hear, but if you give a bit more info about what you want to archieve, we could help you a bit more ^^
