I want a good rugged laptop (like a toughbook) for DJing. I don't want to spend more money than I have to, so I figure Toughbooks are going to be more expensive because of the brand.
Can someone recommend one? |

Honestly unless you are planning on DJing on the back of a moving safari jeep driving through the jungle or during an extreme mountain climbing expedition, the sahara desert, or while falling down some stairs, my honest opinion is that you are better off just to get a more powerful "normal" laptop and a nice carry case/backpack.

I agree with Axis, I've had my dell laptop playing outside from 30 degrees at night to hot and in the desert sun as well as traveling by plane a bunch. Those toughbooks are more designed to take an impact- dropping, hitting, etc which shouldn't be a concern if you're careful.

I dont think that those companies make very powerfull computers anyways... they are made to just get internet in the middle of noware kinda thing.
Would be cool though...i dont even want to know how heavy they are.

I haven't tried it myxelf yet but if you're just DJing, it might be worth considering a small netbook... sure they seem fragile but you have the benefit of it being small and light enough to carry and protect easily.
It seems a netbook should be able to handle ableton/traktor with a small amount of audio channels fairly easily.
