Greetings, all terrestrial life-forms and conservative voters out there.
The time has come yet again for the Astral Psyentists to paint the town
"red".
We have a line-up that will keep us all happy and united on the floor, and
maybe teach us a thing or two about the politics of dancing.

This Thursday (Nov. 4), ROTATION at the Luna Lounge will go on from 6pm
until 12am, a full 2 hours more of stomping!
And best of all there's no cover, so say it with us. 1, 2, F-R-E-E!
And last but not least, extended 2 hour DJ sets to provide a meaningful
journey from our sonic navigators.

Presenting the list of candidates for the evening:
We start the celebration with Tobal. This DJ has rocked many a party and in
case you've been missing him, he's baaaaack! He's sure to play some
interesting music that offers a different perspective from all the media
hype. Oh, and did we mention that you should come early so you don't have to
stand for hours in a line out in the cold waiting for your turn?

Next, we have Sanyama taking over the controls to get your melodic stomp on.
He's been working hard to bring you a lot of original material and also has
some nostalgic tunes up his sleeves to remind you of your Goa past. Not all
flashbacks are bad, especially ones that remind you of the happy times you
had dancing with all the liberal folks.

Our final audio pilot for the night is Obu. This representative has been
very popular with the psy-trance crowd. He has been tearing up dance floors
for a while now and never fails to surprise with tracks so fresh, they still
have that studio smell. His set is sure to help you release all that pent-up
frustration and ensure that you go home following your bliss.

So, see all ya'll on the dance floor! Remember, every move counts.

06 - 08 Tobal (Goa.play)
08 - 10 Sanyama (Astral Psyentists)
10 - 12 Obu (Bombay power)

The Luna Lounge
1192 Folsom @ 8th
San Francisco, Blue State CA, USA
6pm - 12am
FREE, no cover!

Good, cheap Mexican food 'till 8p.
And, the ever-popular Margaritas!

Please join us in this celebration of our journey, life and love, and the
continuation of our beautiful vision in the heart of the San Francisco Bay
Area.

Namaste!

Oh gawd do we ever love this spot.

Unfortunately, attendance has been steadily falling for quite some time. The owners of the club are totally rad, and love us as a group. They offer us extra time now and again as they are able to. This party has allways been a happy hour party, and honestly, even though it is jarring to end at 10, it's a lifesaver for many of us who have to work the next day. I know I speak only for myself (although hopefully someone will back me up), but if this party went till 2, I would have never made it to work on Fridays!

Gawd I miss the Luna Lounge.

Seriously man, wonder whats up with the attendance issue here, people just tired of the Luna?

I could have counted the number of people there on both hands...hehe.

But seriously, Ive had some brilliantly fun times there, and yes if it went to 2am Friday morning would be out of the question..lol

Still good times, as always!

Definetly nice to meet ya for a brief sec. BSM!

Maybe some proper promotion would sort the attendance issue, 'cause honestly...most people have no fucking clue what's happening there I think apart from those who are fed up starring @ an empty dancefloor....at least that's my humble opinion from what I saw that's going on there....the place is topnotch but ya gotta let some more people know about it than just a few hands full of friends if ya wanna make it work And that's gonna take a bit more than posting it on some forums 1 or 2 days before ...1 way or another...wish ya all goodluck with it

What i dont get is why Il Pirata with less promotion than Luna has is doing better.
Luna has the better sound system, nicer atmosphere, food....
and now were free as well.....

Couple of issues here:
That night of the party was a slow night after all the Halloween partying. Even 1984 next door was slow. The bar did well though.
Also, getting Penta would not have been good for him because of the lack of promotion. Sure, if you just want friends to fill up a floor, that's fine, but he deserves more
respect I would think.

Anyway, we do need to promote the parties a bit more because many ppl do not know it's free, etc.

Also, Shawnodese, the party you played at was a last-minute thing and not really promoted...it was all by word of mouth.

Talking about Il Pirata, Synchronize have been getting visiting artists for weeks in a row, so they're bound to get more ppl. So, you should wait and see in the coming weeks. Also, maybe the ability to smoke in there is a small factor?

filling the floor with all of his friends sounds like a great celebration!! remeber the going away party?? packed and best party ever! there are still flyers for rotation, so maybe promotion will help..
also synchronize is wed. nite, hump nite, and later time so i think it fits with people's schedules more...           Bringing Dreams to Life!

I remember when it used to be packed with people every week and every week was tons of fun. Ive played to a packed dancefloor in that place a number of times, amazing good times.

Recently I've seen handfuls of people turn up for bigger headliners.

Dont know what the problem is but I really doubt its who is playing. Penta does attract people, but besides him? Even KJ and Peter dont attract a great crowd, a regular MOE party there doesnt even bring in the amount of people that used to come there....

Oh well..

Will Nikita will be playing there this week? I need a fun Thursday...

Good times..

well, il pirata has always been free (except for an occasional $5 cover for somebody like neuromotor). and it has always gone til 2. it's true that friday morning you might be glad the party only went till 10, but on thursday evening, its not as motivating to go out when the party is only going till 10. especailly for people coming home from work at 6 or 7 (or 8, in some sad cases ). il pirata doesn't even get going till 11:30.

as for atmosphere, well, there's no accounting for taste, but you might consider that the fact that il pirata isn't promoted as *part* of the atmosphere. people go to have a weekly night to see some friends and stomp around some. who's playing often isn't the point. kick back with a drink, bitch about work, laugh about the last weekend, get psyched for the coming one...

no disrespect to the rotation crew of course, just food for thought           sound is vibration

Regardless of the styles of promotion used between the Luna Lounge and Il Pirata, we've still been seeing a downgrade of attendance for Thursday nite. It's been happening all year. I think Thursday nites just aren't working for a lot of people anymore, and like Megan said, Synchronize is hump day. More people are attuned to that and *need* a release on that day than on Thursday. Plus it's farther away from the weekend, so they have more time to get their groove on and relax before going back out again on Friday nite.

I don't know what we can do, promotion wise, to increase attendance on a weekly level at the Lounge. Certainly more advanced warning EVERY week will do a lot, but it needs to be kept up EVERY week, and that simply isn't happening here.

Don't get me wrong - I *heart* the Lounge. I *heart* being there almost every week, I *heart* the people that show, the energy and vibe it has sustained for over two years. It's a testament to our vision and the respect we've earned from John Luna and his establishment. They don't want us to leave. But attendance is crappy.

A new angle? Better promotion? More flyers? We've moved to a later starting time and a FREE door cover, so maybe we'll get some more people with that. But the only times we've gotten major attendance has been on *special* occasions. How do we make EVERY week a special occasion?
