Yup
Plenty of people using linux producing music.
After all they like having to setup their audio drivers using script files. instead of making music.

Cant u just dual boot a system with windows?

i am a linux user. for one purpose, i had to install windows (dualboot): music production. i like the open source movement behind music software on linux. but i must say, for music production, nothing beats commercial (sadly windows-based) products yet. so i'd suggest to write your plugins on the windows platform. be sure to write portable code as much as possible. so you'll be able to port to linux once there is more products AND more users making music on linux.

good luck with your vst development! be sure to check out kvraudio's developer forum [1].

best wishes,
dtd

Thanx a lot for the feedback m8´s. Ill look into it, i can only find out trying but i would love to see the linux music production community growing, so we dont have to pay 500$ or more to produce on windows, wich is a pretty slow, heavy, unsafe and really f#!&* up operationa system.           "There is a thin line between drug using and drug abusing, and to see it is very tricky."

i would actually pay 500$ for sonar on linux. i don't expect an open source sequencer to be able to replace any commercial sequencer in the near future.           $ exp(j*pi) + 1 = 0. $

Sadly, I have to agree with dtd.Music Production is the only thing that keeps windows in my disk.
I 'm a also a big fan of open source and free software but is this section linux is way far from being ready to use for music production. I have used almost all software for linux (rosegarden, ardour, jack, dssi, jamin, hydrogen, rezound, zynaddsubfx, ...) and is very promising but simply not ready yet.
Rosegarden and ardour can link together so to have a DAW but there is lack of important features such as a more-than-basic automation. Also, VST wrappers exist (rosegarden is one of them) but is extremely slow) and dssi and ladspa (alternative to vsti/dxi vst/dx plugins) are not so powerful in this stage.

p.s But i wouldn't give 500$ for sonar or cubase, i would just find them the other way

If you have other questions or advices about making music in linux just let me know.
