Nope only small problems that you cannot avoid with a +20 year old synth.
The res slider had some operating noise when i bought it but that's pretty common and it it's gone now by itself anyway.
The phones out had a bad connection but that was easly fixed. I just opened it up and put on som new soldering tin.
I really think that you and your friend have been really unlucky. I almost newer hear of broken critical parts in the SH101, like the DCO's dying on a Juno-106. |

I can buy a sh101 for $500. Is it a good price?

It's fair, a few years ago I watched SH101's go on eBay for $400-600.
I'd probably snag one for that price.
All the knobs working? Does it have a CV->Midi module? |

vintage gear by its definition is luxury gear not an economy machine. i.e. meant to be quirky, hard to use, and with a specific sound. if you want bang for the buck, vintage is not that....
i bought a sh-2 a couple of weeks ago, and am in love with it. truly a sound that a VA can't produce (pitch bend is just so lush ). however VA's can make many sounds, plus polyphony that just isn't possible / affordable with analog components
a good alternative to the poly six is the mono/poly lots of knobs, and you can stack or split the 4 oscillators..
Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

btw why you want old synth like the SH101? its old monophonic synth that have CV gate outputs and brake down easly, dont buy it man, SH101 its only a name for me, i played live one time with it, and to tell the true, i prefer Vdigital!!!, i also had it in my studio for 2 years...
if you told me that your after moog or somthing similar thats ok bcuz moog have great sound (FAT sound), but sh101, comon, its only to put in the studio for look, nothing alse.
sh101 was good years ago, but not in this time, we are in 2007 man, go for Vdigital synths!
thats only my opinion
