actually jp8080 isnt an analog its an virtual analog so i think the word vintage goes for a real analog synth!

http://www.vintagesynth.com/roland/jp8080.shtml

so, the JP8080 is on "vintage synth" com.

but so is the virus C
http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/virusc.shtml
and nordlead 3
http://www.vintagesynth.com/clavia/nord3.shtml

so being on vintage synth com isn't being vintage.

JP8080 is from 1998!!! And it's digital (analog MODELLING),
It sounds special, complicated, but cool. Roland sound, characterisitic and liquid. but digital.

I think there is no real definition, but I wouldn't call something "vintage" which is after the 80s AND digital.

i actually own a jp8000 its really sweet but i dont consider it to be neither analog nor vintage unless ur calling me vintage lol i was bout 18 when it came out so i dont think its vintage or am i turning vintage oh well...
im looking at alot of old analog synths and reading reviews and what not i was interested in the sh101 but no midi and no memory for my patches really turned me off quite ALOT
id hate to have to photograph my patches lol

JP8080 is one of my fav synth!!, btw why you want old synth like the SH101? its old monophonic synth that have CV gate outputs and brake down easly, dont buy it man, SH101 its only a name for me, i played live one time with it, and to tell the true, i prefer Vdigital!!!, i also had it in my studio for 2 years...

if you told me that your after moog or somthing similar thats ok bcuz moog have great sound (FAT sound), but sh101, comon, its only to put in the studio for look, nothing alse.

sh101 was good years ago, but not in this time, we are in 2007 man, go for Vdigital synths!

thats only my opinion

It easy to control an SH101 with midi. Just get a midi->cv converter.

Adrenal Mode>> Sorry. I can only laugh at what youre saying. Fine if you don't prefer the sound but saying stupids things is just...hmm stupid.
They don't break down easly.
If its just a name for you thats fine but that doesnt make it just a name for everyone else and the only reason to have one.

Yes Simon Posford uses one in tons of his work. Sphongle and Younger Brother has lots of SH101 sounds in it.

no joke...straight from the younger brother myspace page:

just got back from finishing off the latest younger brother track. Its been all night sessions and gourmet food but its been worth it i recon. The track originally came from a simple chord sequence based around A minor, Eminor and B minor. During the previous session we got some sounds down, a rough arrangement and some killer pedal steel guitar. The result of that 1st session is one of the tunes that comes up on our myspace music player called "all i want".
This last session lasted three days and we tweaked the sound all over, tightened up the arrangement and deployed some top secret new sound devices. And the result is a kinda electro/country/tripped out opera thingy if that makes any sense.
In the end we used all kinds of sound sources, such as:

Acoustic guitar
bass guitar
electric guitar
pedal steel guitar
oscar synth
macbeth synth
sherman filter bank
roland sh101/
roland v-synth
eventide fx
buffer over ride, plugin-free online and a good'un.

also... from the old hallucinogen page

Most of the first Shpongle album was done with the gear you see on this photo. Simon used only the Kurzweil K2500, the Apple Mac G3, AKAI S3200 sampler and Roland SH101 to do the work with Raja.

and also this

Under the stack of CDs you find a Roland SH101, another analog synth. It gets used on just about every track he has ever done.

im really not such a simon posford nerd hheeh , i just happened to be reading up on all this stuff just last night

I guess those guys could make anything sound good though hehe

well, the thing is, i can give ya alot more artist that have it like:

Quote:

Orbital, Future Sound of London, Uberzone, The Prodigy, 808 State, The Grid, Cirrus, Eat Static, Jimmy Edgar, Apollo 440, Devo, Union Jack, Luke Vibert, Dirty Vegas, Josh Wink, the Crystal Method, Aphex Twin, Astral Projection, Les Rythmes Digitales, Sense Datum, Squarepusher, Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM/MDFMK, Freddy Fresh, Lab-4, Nitzer Ebb, the Chemical Brothers and many more.

but its metter of taste in the end of the day...and to me its sound like crap, and YES they DO break down easly, bcuz mine was broke(not actualy broke but i was needed to replace parts every half year) also 2 good freinds still have it and i can tell ya that thay replace parts like a milion times (not milion but alot).

i asked my freind why dont you sell it? he told me bcuz i like it here in my studio, i sad to him, do you even use it? what do you think he answerd?....

so "classic" or not, only bcuz the name and storis( and yes also the control is great) ppl "like it" but the sound is crap (to me)

not very relevant for my work @ this time when you have so much great tech out there, and if you ask "pros" what do you prefer sh101 or v-synth(in this case), i'm sure he will say v-synth for sure.

cheers

Sorry but this might sound rude but its very obvious that you have some sort of hate for the SH101 but apparently you don't even know how the SH101 sounds even though youve had it for 2 years! So you should really stop giving advice about it.

i dont hate vintege gear man, i love and use vintege gear, i also buy my virtual tools!, i just had bad experiance with this machine, if he like the sound of the sh101 and have great price for it and its in good condition ofcours, so good, then buy it if YOU like it...

@AvS, just for the record i do know the sh nesty mid range sound...i just dont like it anymore, i prefer jupiter, polysix, dx....
btw, you dont have problems with the cv converter? and with the silders of the sh?
