pro's - its good for basses and leads with a fat sound!
con's - its an old machine and very difficult to repair when broken and also if its already repaired maybe soem components are not the original spare parts from roland and the sound maybe different than the original!

damn... how should I say this...
... you've just wasted some money on some really bad sounding piece of shit that has no connection with old Roland SH synths.

Yeah just like the new Juno's.
Back to the SH101.
I have one. I love the sound of it. It doesnt sound very modern but thats a good thing IMO. It cant make very many sounds but the sounds you can make with it are great and full of character.

SH201 for free? why not! you can get something good out of anything! Roland has a good sound and it certainly gives you a masterkeyboard.
Anyway nothing to do with SH101.
SH101 is the same synthesizerbasis as the Juno 106, but the Juno is polyphone and has presets and midi.
They are famous for Bass, but I personally can't use the bass from them, because they are to unstable for my taste. It's good to sample them though... actually trilogy already did that...
SH-101 and Juno sound very simple and do not have a lot of soundspectrum. But WHAT they do, they do it in perfection and with warmth and fluidity that is unbeaten in my ears.
I have a Juno 106 till sunday but I've just sold it on ebay, because it was just to much money to be used only now and then for "that" specific sound...
Furthermore, there was a problem with the limited soundspectrum... even though I'm still a big fan of them (still like the music and find it honest)... many times, when I got something cool out of my Juno it reminded me too much of infected. So the juno wasn't really good for me to maintain my own style. Somehow they seem to have the same taste concerning Juno sounds as I have.
If you get it cheap, and like the sound... go for it, but it's certainly more a synth to add to others. not "the only synth to use" it's too limited for that. (NO MIDI!!)
The reason you see so many SH-101s in goa live acts is because they are small, look cool, they are famous and are really easy to make those "lfo, filter selfoszilation- swirls" and "white noise - wush" sounds.
If you see them on live acts, thats all they do with them... it's quite a show.

polysix don't have any form of control, so if you get one you will need to get it modified with midi if you want to be able to sequence it.
SH101 just needs a midi->cv/converter.
Btw. heres a recording of my Sh101:

Love the filter and the buzziness of it.
