I have recently seen a couple of Roland sh-201s on ebay being sold for around £250. I was wondering does anyone have any past experience with this synth? enough to know is it worth purchasing?

I think 250 is a very reasonable price for an SH-101.
Heard many great things about.
Wait for Disco Hooligan, he'll tell you about this synth, as he owns one, and I don't unfortunately

djones, dont mess 201 with 101. 101 is vintage classic, which u wont find for 250. sh-201 is modern chinese shit and i woudnt bother buying that until u need a midi keyboard

Bare in mind that for the same cash you would give for a used and hopefully in good condition sh-101, you will soon be able to get a brand spanking new Moog Minitaur.
Generally be careful with vintage synths, it you need to test them first, even if all their modules function well, you need to check there are no weird crackling noises when you move faders/knobs and generally not a lot of noise present in the output stage.
Imo, you are taking a gamble buying vintage synths these days, especially when there are new analog synths making the rounds again.

Peace out.

Thanks I will keep that Moog Minitaur in mind it seems to be able to produce some good low frequency sounds

Peace in.

i think they stoped production of dark energy, the cem ship is no more avalaible, soon a dark energy 2 .

if you have a powerfull computer first thing i would do is to get u-he diva to get you busy for some months with great sounds (you even get the analog synth workflow as it take so much cpu you have to record to audio so you can see if that workflow suit you..) and save money during that time to buy something really great.
diva is so amazing it stoped a little my gaz for analog synth...until i know it inside out..

Right ok I will look out for any news on a dark energy 2.

I'm fine when it comes to soft-synths my computer has NI-Pro 53 and Vanguard installed on it, I am looking more for some hardware at the moment thanks anyway
