Hello . i came into posession of a really vintage analog synth . im gues its predessesor of jupiter 8,, a jupiter 4. its a big piece of metal, and i dont doubt, having messed around with the jupiter 8 V , that it must sound awesome,,,,,,,, if it get repaired!!! the friend that gave it to me said that it could be done... but in this world of virtual incarnations and total integration, u guys think there will be a use /if i can find any space!! in the making of modern trance/electronica...
i mean its real analog, and its real vintage, but its real big and old.
i think it could be an awesome sound generator..
any opinion guys__??? |

i don't know about the sound of the synth but if i was in your situation i would fix it and have it in my studio just so that i could stare at it and brag.

I think the Jupiter 4 is the best sounding of all the jupiters and one of the nicest sounding synths ever!
Theres just something about that sound. |

hey guys i finally got it fixed it wanst really expensive at all!! it sounds awesome. i have always made music with soft synth and they are great, but theres something to this jupiter sound thats another league, id heard it didnt believe till now.. its like it has life of its own. its changing the way i make music in a possitive way i think... its hard cause im used to vst all the way and perfect sync, 32 bit float... and this thing doesnt even has midi. i think its sort of like sh 101 but fatter.. how do u guys use it and get around the lack of midi sync... so far i use my ear for arp and lfos and micro audio editing.... its kinda hard work but totally pays off so far. i just got divorced and know Roland shares my bed.
im so happy! |

cant you get something like cv to midi (or is it midi to cv? well... you get what i mean) for this? like with the sh, without it i think the honeymoon can be over quite fast, takes way too much effort to produce in a flow. |

it has no cv connection...
there is a DIY kit here
http://www.maaki.com/thomas/sas/jupiter4/jp4_cv/
then again id have to get a cv to midi converter
so its kind of a task to get it implemented with midi, im thinking if its worth it or i should sell it and buy
an analog VA or DSP Powercore Virus....
but its such a nice sucker like and old moog or prophet...
so all u guys who make music with roland sh-101, use the cv-midi converter?

your jup4 does probably 400-450 €. with some luck you get a virusb for this money. virus poco is like virusb. so.. if you have the poco already.. if not get a virusb i would say. |

Don't sell the jup, pixan. If you can afford it,rapir and MIDIfy the thing...you will have some problems with MIDI timing in faster tracks (if you use it for bass, for example),but you can always sample the synth and use the sounds in your software sampler. Greetz, I.
