Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to buy a roland juno 106 for 200euro ! Is it good for the oldskool goatrance?
I check some vidz on youtube but it's not convince me for this time . . .
I see there are astral projection , eat static, jikooha and union jack that use it before so I hesitate !
Have you some advice on it ?
Somebody have this synthetizer ?
Thanks for your answer

I don't know where you're based but it sounds like a good price provided it's in good condition. Although it has certainly been used to squeeze out all kinds of sounds, the 106 was much used for bass lines and pads back in the 1990s, for example by the ones whom you mentioned.
I think that there's either a circuit or the battery that often needs to be switched at least once on the 106. I can't remember which off the top of my head, but I'm sure that someone else can expand on the topic. If the seller is knowledgeable, perhaps you could ask if this has ever been done on this particular 106. Aural transmissions from the deep forests of Sweden

Why blow so much cash on a 303 when you can get a x0xb0x at the fraction of the price and enjoy its update MIDI side?
You'll save up so much you can spend on getting more synths, imo.
Peace out.

i had a 106 for a few years (and a 101 and a 202 and a 606...), it has a fantastic interface and a fantastic sound, the chorus is gorgeous, it sits really well in the mix, and €200 is a REALLY good price for one, if it's 100% working.
sorry, but don't think the plugin version will sound or feel like the real thing.
the xoxbox vs. 303 discussion has been done to death. if you want a 303 get a 303, if you want something that sounds similar, with a completely different interface and sequencer, get a xoxbox.

Thanks for all your comments!
If I can find another Juno 106 for good price I take that .
For people speak about the xoxbox, yes it's a good alternative but it's never sound like the real tb 303 !
I have it now it's just amazing with two converter for the midi problem I have pay for all 800euro , the button and the sequencer inside have been restore 1 years ago.
I think u can find good price check on internet guys!
I know it's more expansive but it's perfect for oldskool .
I just wanna buy a real distortion now for the perfect way .
Thanks for this forum |

but even with the NOS japanese transistors, i've heard A/B comparisons and it still didn't nail it. add to that a completely different interface/sequencer, and you have what is basically a different instrument. remember that a HUGE part of jamming on a real 303 is that crazy sequencer...
would most punters hearing it in a mix be able to tell the difference? probably not, but you aren't dealing with "most punters" on an audio forum like this, we are a bunch of nerds, let's face it.

if you like the 303s sequencer (which is actually a pain in the ass), just flash n0nx0x onto the x0xbox and u have your 303 style programming..
A/B comparisons.. if people wanna hear a difference, they will hear it. ok a x0x doesnt sound 100% like a 303, but you'll never hear it in the mix. its just a subtile thingy with some env settings, where u notice a slight difference, the rest is voodoo. |
