Had the opportunity to play a little with it, some years ago at a dealer. I can't remember much of it, only that I wasn't that impressed, and I kinda thought it looked like a synth from a toys-store...
But heck, it's got midi, it's multitimbral and polyphonic, and you gotta start somewhere. If you're friend is not going to rip you of, then go for it.
My first keyboard, was a Roland U20 - those of you, who knows that one, knows it's not something to brag about  - I think EG101 is an ok place to start, and I bet there is useable sounds among the presets aswell.  )
