I have liked them both equally.. though as I have grown through years of listening to Floyd, I have come to notice that there is a major difference in mood when Roger waters is singing, compared to Gilmour.

Nothing is said that has not been said before.

they are both great musicians. still i prefer gilmour

before gilmour's era, i don't like their music. but when he joined to the band, their music become very different......THE pink floyd as we know them
also i like his beautiful and hypnotizing voice.+ he is amazing guitar player!

in the other hand , waters is one of the greatest song\lyrics writers!           www.myspace.com/aliasix

There is no such era. David Gilmour was there from the start.

The differences also depend on the time in Floyd development you're talking about. I think that as time passed and every band member developed, they went further in different directions. But that is very natural.

I think it's safe to say that in Dark Side of the Moon the band was most synchronised. But I must say that in the last years, the part in their discograpy I connect to more and more is that released before Dark side.

True, Piper was without Gilmour. My mistake.           ---------------------------------------------

Agreed. maybe, that was the point I was trying to make, that after waters left the band, there wasn't much of the old Floyd kind of music (if i can call it so.. like the way it was in animals, meddle or DSOTM) left anymore. Ofc I don't mean to say I don't like gilmour or waters is greater as a musician, but just that they both made great music together for a while, and then maybe grew older and moved on.           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

would have been interesting that at some point barret, waters and gilmour were at the band.

Either way i really cant catch the real difference between waters/gilmour in music. Where i can found more differences and is quite noted in division bell is the content of the lyrics, waters was by far more sensible and soul touching.

But neither of both had the twisted side that syd had.
