..of course of all I focus on all whats possible inside of my collective subconscious. And rms is for quite a while there.and - 14 is really to less Id say.

if you want to persevere the dynamics of music -14 RMS is a very good choice.
But like I said if your monitors compress too easily then how can you actually make a good judgment call on level and compression settings? |

yes of course.. the dynamic range is in technoid electronic music not like in classical or rock.I dunno man ..eazy going be happy with what you do
I always "judge" for myself & only cause i dont have thaqt cash for better equipment I wont loose my ambitions man.
And I make music for quite long, and have already expirneced enuff to be a bit satisfied looking back on that years even with lots of worse equipment.Equipment is nothing ,compared to a spirit or talent (that I am not) -its only a nice equipment.Of course its paradise for expirienced ears to have some decent monitors. And from my expirience the ppl I personaly know ,I know almost only musicians, and those really special guys who have reached more than only a few ears, were begining with almost thrash equipment and became "big" in their creations nevertheless. If you create wonderful music you can create it without expensive equipment. Maybe its even better.
Again,I have my meters my impressions ,when I dont forget by visiting friends I take a file with me,and my aim is to spent lots of times developing in psytrance production which I begun since 2007 even though listening a bit longer to this genre.
Long letter man.. I hope this is enuf of infos about me to you my friend.Take it easy.I dunno who u are and you not who me is.
Cheers

Well -10dB RMS sounds pants. Just though I would share that with you.
All that energy and spirit in the music will be squeezed out.
If people want to hear music loud they can turn it up
Don't get sucked into the loudness war my friend. |

the last time I concretely have checked my headphones skills was in Hamburg Markthalle which is not that lil spot for music in hamburg and i build an intro and a beat .Comparing to my mates beat- he is professional engeneer (mostly audiobooks but not only) my lows was fukin nicer lol .But thats only my impressions man.You have right.. I dont want to smash my dynamics,I am really only experimenting. And it takes long for me to be sure.. really .And this discussion has influenced me to tink about it again(and than probably again and again)
Cheers friend!"

Good mastering which preserves the dynamics of the music and instruments. A decent crest factor in professional circles. |

maybe for chillout
in trance you just gonna sound the smallest on the block.. maybe most dynamic but again i cant see the point of mastering without adding little loudness , in my case -14 db rms is before mastering and i never clip so its defintly not too hot
beside i took the best sounding albums imo and checked and what surprise they are not -14 rather -10 www.sattelbattle.com

I have not heard one album that sounds good at -10dB RMS.
Many mastering houses would disagree with you on your loudness claim. We all can adjust the level on playback....DJ's do this every time they cue up a song by adjusting the input trim. They will be equal in level then. But some will be more dynamic though |

That depends whether the DJ is using the meters or the headphones to set the level of the next track... I think most DJs would use the meters to get the same peak level, as trying to match the levels of two tracks in headphones when one of them is also playing out of the main sytem is kind of difficult!

Every DJ mixer I have seen Colin uses Vu meters....and every DJ should use them!!!
Some don't...that's another thread!!! |

Thanks x-rayz
I don't actually use PSP as my DAW already has RMS meters. And I have a load of Waves stuff as well.
But I am sure many will benefit from the link.
