hello
which one is better of these two?
im aiming for a good soundquality, decent number of inputs/outputs.
something ive heard about Motu Ultralite, is that it works bad with PC, and laptops. ive red on some forums about noises with the motu ultralite.
anyone has any experience of these two products? |

I'd take the multiface. I have no experience with motu but i've had my Multiface for years now and i totally love it! Havnt had any problems with it an it sounds great. |

the ultralite works really great here, no problems at all so far...but remember I'm on mac cant tell about how it works with pcs!
it has defenately a decent quality, and also good preamps inside (if you re going to record some mics)
the only negative I heard about motu so far is that they got no real timing technology inside (like that feedback-slope of rme for example) so theoretically it couldnt place the samples in the same distances, but I never recognized anything from that...I think it also just counts when you record something through it, but still I experienced nothing bad yet!
hope that helped a bit

I initiall bought a ultralite for my dell and did not have one good experience with it. Upon plugging it in from straight out of th box i had issues with noise, glitches pops etc every 15 or so seconds (totally un-workable/ nightmare from hell). It all boils down to the firewire chipset you have. They say u need a Ti or LUCENT chipset. I did not so proceeded to buy one as a pcmcia card and lo and behold still did not work. Support was good and helpfull but nothing worked so after a month i traded it in for a RME FF400 and i must say i was gobsmacked. It all worked and sounded very very good.
MOTU was initially designed for mac but for PC there are very many issues and stories all over the net about countless peoples woes with them.
So my advice go RME. They are a very good company who make amazing interfaces and i have heard a mates Ultraite on a mac with a Virus Ti and rate my Virus Ti is better sounding on my RME and Mac.
I have just switched from PC to MAc and with the RME and PC it was alllll goood.
Good luck |

I bought the 828mkII several months ago, and everything was fine until about a month ago I started getting random blue screens resulting from a motyfw.sys error, that problem went away but another appeared, the notorious random burst of noises and crackles, currently it's impossible to work with and no real solutions are known, I am in the process of reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything one by one (perhaps it's a vst that's causing this). And it is a pc that I have with Ti firewire. Right now I am regretting not having spent a little extra on the RME FF400, allthough the sound of MOTU is great, apart for the mic preamps which are noticebly superior in the FF, there probably isn't much difference in the quality of sound, however it's got strong issues with pc, and the problems I've been having seem to be a common issue. |

Sorry to hear that kadavr
Sounds very very familiar. My advise! See if you can still do a trade in for the RME.... I am another who has had a very bad PC Motu relationship!

Another motu + pc user here. I have an ultralite. It was fuckin' buggy when i bought it and plugged it to the firewire port on my motherboard. I have bought then a Belkin firewire pci card and now everything works perfectly, and drivers never crashed again. |

I'm using the ultralite with a pc.
TI firewire chipset firmware 1.15 and NO problems there.
my neighbour's using the 828 mkII with an acer onboard firewire port and got absolutly no probs, too.
nobody writes in forums if it's running well, but everybody with probs does, and that's what u read.
even on a mac a motu can cause problems......

Well when I was buying it I guess I only read the good reviews, which there are plenty off. But in any case it doesn't help the cause much, I have now reinstalled my os, and same damn thing... ((( |

motu is what i would opt for too
but if you have the cash and heart then FOR SURE apogee ensemble
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Ensemble/
  Nocturnal Wizardz Recs
Bhooteshwara Records
Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more. |
