RME latency and cubase 4

hi guys..a small question
I used to have 5-6 ms of latency with 256 samples wiht cubase sx3..now with the same set up(RME multiface 2, I didn't change anything) I got 12 ms of latency with cubase 4 which is way too much when I play..
how can it be possible?
