So I've been trying to figure out how this guy makes this sound. Any ideas? It's from this track, at the 1:31 mark. I emailed him and he said it was the Virus TI, originally. So FM synthesis? Any ideas in general about those kind of squelchy ripping kind of sounds would be helpful. Mine never come out sounding quite as sharp or as fartarific as I want.

Hi, I don't really know as this sound is beyond me but if you own a virus you could try the different wave types on the virus initially to try get the right timbre then link pitch to lfo and to the envelope for the initial sound. Maybe also try ring mod + distortion to lfo as well and then eq.

If you don't own a virus i have one i'll try it later today when i get home and see if i can get this sound.

Could very well be FM with the lower octaves. That usually gives a similar kinda sound. Was it a preset? If so i can check it for you.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

I don't own a Virus and I don't really know them well but if I were to try to emulate it I think I would probably start with a saw wave and play with the pitch envelope. I don't really know how to make this sound but that granular or stretching type of sound can be achieved with a pitch envelope.

a vocal sample chopped up, the growly sound could be a saw, pitch mod like mentioned and filtered
