there´s a program called "DVD audio extractor" that is supposed to do that...also you can use any program like soundforge or wavelab to record while it plays...

All i do is enabling the proper channel in cubase sx hitting the record button and playing the DVD.
Or perhaps use a proggie called Total Recorder, which helps with tasks like that.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Hi there,

Why would you want to record it while playing ? You can rip it directly from dvd files thus performing it faster than real-time.

I would advise you to use mplayer, the best media player and converter ever, once downloaded on the web, you just have to type in a command line something like this :

mplayer dvd://1 to check that you can read your dvd (this should play the first title)

then, type

mencoder dvd://1 -ao pcm -aofile audio.wav and this will rip the audio form title 1 to a file called audio.wav

(if you are using windows and mplayer dvd://1 is not runnign the dvd, you might want to explicit the dvd device to read from with -dvd-device option :
example : mplayer dvd://1 -dvd-device f:)

It is really the best tool for movie processing, it's multi platform and open source !! PM me if you have troubles using it

DVDX rules for .mpeg & .vob (direct from DVD) audio extraction. And it's freeware. It will rip the entire DVD movie audio in a few minutes, capturing audio in real time sucks.

I posted about it here a little while ago with specific instructions....

I will second that recommendation from Aeon, It's pretty easy to use and not very timeconsuming... And it's better than recording the dvd into your soundcard.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Yes, Fingax's right, virtual dub is perfect for ripping audio from avi movies,

let me add that for ripping audio from mpeg2 files or dvd movies with virtual dub, i think you need to get virtualdubmod (aka virtualdub-mpeg2) and you might also need to install the AC3 decompressor codec (free on the web) to read the audio stream on some dvd.

Fingax : which version of VB do you use ?

If you have a mac the quickest way to do it is with a freeware program called wiretap www.macupdate.com It will record any audio being played within your computer. Just make sure you turn your external interface off and play the dvd through core audio.
